In case you missed it. MSN and Keith Olbermann exposed the latest sick contracting outrage. Troops are dying from RPG attacks when there is an Israeli anti-RPG defense available and already in use. Instead, the Pentagon handed a sweet contract to Raytheon, who are re-inventing the wheel and can't even deliver until 2011. What are the priorities over there? Eisenhower was so right!:grr:
Thanks Keith, for getting this out...

1. We don't really know that the Israeli system will work great.
That said, even if it doesn't work at all, that has nothing to do with the contract going to Raytheon, does it? So point taken, even though I'll remain skeptical about the final result.

3. They claim it is very very effective, I forgot the %, it was extremely high.
And what's wrong with battle testing something that exists?

4. You can read for yourself what the Army thinks of it
In the summer of 2005, Army engineers — working with a team from the Navy — analyzed six systems to defend against rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs). Their conclusion? Trophy was the "best candidate," the "most technically advanced" and the "most technically mature system." <.PDF link>

2. I saw that. Unbelievable.
"The Army says it doesn't have an auto-reloader, what do you say to that?"

"Well... this is an auto-reloader."

5. Just another outrage wherein support of our troops is sold out to a defense contractor's profits

8. and / or get off their butts and make it work now
I am not thrilled about having to buy this kind of thing from the Israelis. Why can't they do both? Buy some working armor now and get the domestic armor online ASAP. How hard can it be to reverse engineer. I am sure that they reverse engineer our stuff all of the time. I agree that a 2011 delivery date is unacceptable.

Nothing is worth getting people killed but keeping the tax dollars at home would be better.

9. Greedy sons of bitches...

This administration is all about figuring out how to make a quick buck of people dying so why on earth even buy a dozen or so systems and take 'em out for a test drive to see how they work on the battle field? Sure if it doesn't work worst case scenario is that our soldiers won't be any safer than they are now (as opposed to being in more danger), but screw it's a threat to our own system that we can make some cash off of and we could handle the burden of putting it out in the market it when it's ready and competing for market share like everybody else. Who gives a crap about the lives of the peons we send to war, they're only cannon fodder to us anyway. So long as we can make some money off this down the road.

This congress had better get off its ass and send some of these damn war profiteers to damn jail!:banghead:

10. The Army can't even put some reactive armor on the vehicles? That's cheap.
And it works very well.
