20. Abrams was a total wuss about it, but Rachel Maddow was right on, remarking to Buchanan
that she and he had made joint appearances "millions of times" but she had never heard him say anything like that
before. Buchanan neither apologized nor seemed contrite (yeah, right).
I wrote to MSNBC today to say how disappointed I was that Abrams, as the host, did not see fit to say something
to Keli Goff, the female journalist who was the object of the insult.
Can you imagine someone saying that on KO's show and him saying nothing about it?

4. If he had said, "Would you be quite for a second"
Would it have been the same as "shut up for a second"? To be honest she was not letting him speak. She was out of line for not letting him speak in his turn. Even though I think he is some what of a racist, she should have let him speak in his turn in respond to her comment.

Just trying to be fair even to one I think is a closet racist.

not his racism and bigotry that he wears on his sleeve.

She would have been out of line if she allowed him to spew his twisted logic of hate. He has been doing this since 1972, Rove learned from him during the Nixon campaign.

"The War Between the States was about independence, about self-determination, about the right of a people to break free of a government to which they could no longer give allegiance … How long is this endless groveling before every cry of ‘racism’ going to continue before the whole country collectively throws up?"—syndicated column, 7/28/93

"If we had to take a million immigrants in, say Zulus, next year, or Englishmen, and put them up in Virginia, what group would be easier to assimilate and would cause less problems for the people of Virginia?"—This Week With David Brinkley, 1/8/91

"Our culture is superior. Our culture is superior because our religion is Christianity and that is the truth that makes men free."—Speech to the Christian Coalition, September 1993

"I don’t care about the circumstances of a child’s conception. You want to execute somebody in the case of rape, execute the rapist and let the unborn child live."—New York Times, 2/24/96

"Homosexuality is not a civil right. Its rise almost always is accompanied, as in the Weimar Republic, with a decay of society and a collapse of its basic cinder block, the family."—New Republic, 3/30/92

"Rail as they will about ‘discrimination,’ women are simply not endowed by nature with the same measures of single-minded ambition and the will to succeed in the fiercely competitive world of Western capitalism."—Syndicated column, 11/22/83

"The real liberators of American women were not the feminist noise-makers, they were the automobile, the supermarket, the shopping center, the dishwasher, the washer-dryer, the freezer."—Right from the Beginning, p.

the shut-up line to anyone else ... probably the kind of permission he could give himself with THIS person - bias, racism, deplorable manners ... we can all conclude for ourselves here, and it ain't pretty

24. Based on this clip, I can understand Buchanan's frustration
Edited on Fri Mar-14-08 04:40 AM by Apollo11
I don't see how serious political commentators can deny that African American voters have been instrumental in helping Barack Obama to win the Democratic Primaries in a considerable number of States - from South Carolina in January to Mississippi this week. PS - I don't see anything wrong with AA voters voting for an AA candidate.

Just like there is nothing wrong with saying that white women voters have been instrumental in helping Hillary Clinton to win the Democratic Primaries in all of the States she wom until now - from New Hampshire to Ohio.

Keli Goff was putting forward a very weak (I would even say "ridiculous") argument, that because some national polls that were taken before the South Carolina primary did not show Obama winning the support of a majority of black voters, that somehow proves that black voters have not been an crucial part of Obama's base if you look at the totality of all the contests that have taken place up until now.

Keli Goff even yelled at Pat: "You're forgetting all the states that came before South Carolina!"

As Pat Buchanan correctly observed - there are not very many black folks in Iowa and New Hampshire.

I guess that would also make me a racist? :eyes:

...give racist Buchanan the right to tell her to "shut up."
That was was just wrong, and I'm glad Rachel nailed him for
it.
