Changing countries. Need help and info
I may be looking into leaving this country.
It appears that the land of the free doesn't allow us to have dual citizenship.
Are there exceptions?
If not, what country should we move to?

International WWOOF Association
http://www.wwoof.org/
The International WWOOF Association is dedicated to helping those who would like to volunteer on organic farms internationally.
The aims of WWOOF are to ...
enable people to learn first-hand about organic growing techniques
to enable town-dwellers to experience living and helping on a farm
to help farmers make organic production a viable alternative
to improve communications within the organic movement.

WWOOF organisations compile a list of organic Host farms that (from time to time) welcome volunteer help. When you become a member of a WWOOF organisation, you will be put in contact with these Host farms. It is then up to you to contact the Host farms that interest you and make your own arrangements with them.

What is Wwoof?

Wwoof allows volunteers to stay on organic farms and join in with the various projects hosts are busy with.
There is a variety of properties spread throughout NZ, including farms, market gardens, communities and ventures in self- sufficiency in which organic growing plays some part.
Currently there are about 800 Wwoof Farms in New Zealand.

3. The US doesn't have a set policy
Generally it doesn't recognize dual citizenship, but if you already hold a foreign citizenship, you can naturalize in the US without losing your other citizenship if your other country's laws allow it.

But since you're trying to leave the US, this won't apply to you. Generally, naturalization in another country is grounds enough to lose US citizenship, though if you want to REALLY lose it, you'll want to renounce your US citizenship at an American diplomatic mission (and normally they won't allow it until you do naturalize in your new country).

As for "nation-shopping" every country has different immigration laws, and different social challenges. Thorough research is in order to find a country that, most importantly, NEEDS people like you.

6. Only you can decide what country to move to
Different countries have different strengths and weaknesses.

What kind of climate do you like?
Are you outdoorsy?
Do you need a place with a low cost of living?
Do you know or can you easily learn any new languages?
What level of comfort is essential for you?
Do you want to be among other Americans or totally isolated from Americans?
Do you like to attend cultural events?
Do you have a strong religious preference and is there a compatible community of your preferred religion available? Or, are you an atheist and more comfortable living in a more secularized society?
What kind of health care is available, and are you eligible for coverage under that country's health care system?
How easy is it to get a work permit, or do you have enough money to live without working? Are there jobs available in your field?
Do you have children, and if so, how do you want them to be educated?
What are taxation levels like? If they are low, does that mean crappy public services?
Is there reliable electricity, and can you drink the water?

Answer these questions, use it to narrow down your list of possible getaways, and then be sure to visit your top choice before making the final move.
