Police Union Contract Dispute

My local is just getting ready to start negotiating with the city. Our contract ends at the end of this year.

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha Police Union aired a list of complaints with the city over its stalled contract negotiations.

On Monday, union officials detailed what would have been their third contract offer to City Hall.

The union had planned to submit it Tuesday, but can't since last week the mayor declared negotiations at an impasse and asked an arbitrator to step in.

Union officials said their offer would have ended pension 'spiking' and would have addressed the problem of pension system underfunding.

Aaron Hanson, Omaha Police Union President, said, “If the city and the mayor and the city council are serious about sitting down and problem-solving on this issue, then we are more than willing. "

On Monday, the mayor's office said that at the time an impasse was declared, the city of omaha and the police union were nowhere near an agreeable contract.

The dispute will now be resolved by a labor relations board in Lincoln.
