OSHA fines concrete company for repeat and serious hazards ($76,500 wow)

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration says a concrete manufacturer committed 11 serious and repeat violations of safety and health standards at its Syracuse plant.

Cranesville Block Co.'s Clark Division faces $76,500 in fines following inspections prompted by an employee complaint.

The violations included overexposure to toxic dust and inadequate training. Three of the citations were for repeat violations. OSHA says it had cited Cranesville for the same hazards in 2004 and 2005 at its plants in Amsterdam and Albany.

It says the violations put workers at risk.

The Rochester-based company has 15 days to accept or contest the fines announced Thursday. Company officials were not immediately available for comment.
