: “If we weren't in the game, the game would already be lost. But we're in the game. With all the work that’s been put in, all the money that’s been spent – and we think well-spent – we think we’re making some real headway.”
AFSCME President Gerald McEntee on labor’s powerful efforts to support working family friendly candidates November 2nd. McEntee says he believes the Democrats will hold the U.S. Senate, but the House is in danger of going Republican, something McEntee says would be bad for working people.
: “If Boehner becomes head of the House we will see, in our judgment, no support for working men and women. Not just labor, but working men and women in general. He’s a friend of Wall Street.”
McEntee says President Obama often describes how he found the economy like a battered car in a ditch when he took office, driven there by Republicans. He says labor’s political effort is to help Obama and Democrats avoid letting Republicans crash the economy again.
: "Obama has been trying to get that car out of the ditch and we're trying to support him in that effort. We're middle income workers. And it's union and non-union middle income workers that are trying to give that support to governors, to House members and to Democratic members at well to turn this country around and get that car back into drive instead of reverse."
