...the Public Sector does NOT get compensated at greater levels than the Private Sector.
On an "apples to apples" comparison in education requirements, job duties, and responsibilities the Public Sector typically is compensated at much lower levels.
For instance, I realize there are many articles out there showing upper management city employee compensations.
But where are the upper management compensation packages for say the Defense Industry? Let's see those for comparison. Let's see those numbers since they are 100% tax payer funded also.
I'd love to see a Private Sector compensation package of a job classification equal to that of a City Manager in education requirements, job duties, and responsibilities.
A Private Sector employee who handles this:
Oversees an $80 million annual budget which they are mandated to balance
A workforce of 200 employees they manage
Responsible for a variety of Public Works including safe water delivery and wastewater disposal
Answering to a population of 50,000
Makes sure permitting and codes are followed
Oversees fire and police departments
Senior programs and facilities
Community events and programs
Overall health and safety of an entire community
Show me a Private Sector position that would advertise this position for $350K total annual wage/compensation.
Yeah...right.
Think about it before falling for the media hype and sensationalist stories they try and broadbrush all public servants with.
