How do I find a good employment attorney?
Edited on Wed Jun-28-06 11:05 AM by Rich Hunt
I was fired illegally, libeled by my employer, and they delayed giving me my legally owed vacation pay for about five months.

I phoned Payroll and they told me that I was deleted from the employer's records (this is also illegal).

I sent all documentation to the Illinois Department of Labor, sent copies to Human Resources, and they sent me a letter back, bending over backwards to insist that the deletion was "just an accident". Right. Then, they claimed that I was owed nine days of vacation pay, instead of the twelve that is DOCUMENTED on the records. They still owe me for three days of vacation, it's about three hundred dollars.

I was threatened by an Amazon seller over the phone and refused to endanger myself or waste the college's money and compromise their ethics. I suffered an attempt on my life last March, told them that in my "exit interview"/dismissal, and they didn't even acknowledge this or say they were sorry. Working conditions had gotten menacing and threatening, and they knew it.

I hate to fight them for $300 but I cannot move from my location and I have no health care and the despair over my not having a future is destroying me. I am long past hoping for anyone to help. I have found that the rule that EVERYONE has is that you can only rely on your family, no one else cares or will help.

I will prostitute myself to pay the legal bills, if necessary.

Could you please recommend a good employment attorney?

Please, I can't see a future for myself. I barely have the energy to get out of bed because of this endless war on my family. Can someone please get me a good attorney? If I get no answer today, I will get more and more suicidal. No one cares. All of my education is wasted, and I will never see my children. No one will help and my life appears to be over.

1. There might be a law referral service you could try also...

Call some local union offices to see who they use too.

2. Dear Rich Hunt,
I know your flameout post got you booted, but If you are still looking in, please call a crisis hotline. I believe you are a person dealing with serious problems.

Please seek professional help. Here is a list of local agencies in Illinois that can help or refer you to help.

Or the national crisis hotline.
