Today in Labor History Dec 26 “parasites,” including stockbrokers and lawyers & public mass executio

December 26

December 26, 1862 - The largest public mass execution ever in the United States took place in Mankato, Minnesota, when the U.S. military hung 38 Dakota men for their part in the "Sioux Outbreak" that began in August of that year. Every year, Native Americans commemorate the tragedy with a memorial run from Fort Snelling to Mankato, followed by a pipe ceremony to honor their ancestors.

Knights of Labor founded. Constitution bars from membership “parasites,” including stockbrokers and lawyers - 1869


Workingmen’s Party is reorganized as the Socialist Labor Party - 1877

December 26, 1917 - The Meatcutters, Sausage Makers and Butcher Workmen of Minneapolis, Local No. 653, received its charter.

Or maybe it was wishful thinking.

Despite my general philosophical opposition to the death penalty, I have to admit that my heart leapt a little when I thought your subject line said that parasite stockbrokers (and some lawyers) were executed.

Oh, well....
