Wal Mart does it again. The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled in favor of the chain store. In 2005, the store in Jonquiree, Quebec was closed because of the recent union certification of the stores employees. This, of course, led to various court runs by the displaced employees of the store. At the end of 2005, the Quebec Labor Board ordered Wal Mart to compensate the former employees. (

As usual, the company had said that the store was closed due to nonprofitability at the store. The vice president of Walmart Canada said, “As of now, the highest court in the land has looked at this, as have other courts, and have said that as unfortunate as the situation was, Wal-Mart was not in the wrong to do what it did.” (

But looking at Wal Mart's track record of unionized workers tells another story. They left operations in Germany because of the regulations governing business and union. In Texas, a store's meat department unionized. (

If we do that and do what is right for our communities, we will be fine. We will continue to foster an environment of open communications and encourage our associates to express their ideas, comments and concerns. We are not against unions. They may be right for some companies but there is simply no need for a third party to come between our associates and their managers”. (
