Lede: In the wake of President Obama’s China trip, a report to Congress reveals the depth of China’s threat to U.S. workers. Doug Cunningham reports.

By Doug Cunningham

The report is called The U.S. China Economic and Security Review. The AFL-CIO says it should be viewed as a call to action because it underscores China’s often illegal manufacturing strategy. The report shows China’s export and manufacturing strategies are driven by a full range of subsidies. Many of those subsidies, the AFL-CIO says , are illegal under both the WTO and U.S.-China trade agreements. The report says these Chinese industrial policies are a contributing factor to the imbalances that led to the global financial crisis. The AFL-CIO says this report clearly demonstrates the need for the U.S. to form a new strategic
approach to the relationship with China. Millions of U.S. workers have been hurt by Chinese industrial, trade and export policies.

Organized labor is urging Congress and the Obama administration to heed this report and take action on several key recommendations of a bipartisan panel to respond to the problems caused by China’s massive and often illegal trade subsidies.
