Anti-Wage Theft Rallies In Forty U.S. Cities Today As Members Of Congress, Workers Spotlight The Iss

Rallies will be held in more than 40 cities around the country today for a national day of action to stop wage theft. Jesse Russell has more.

The day was called by Interfaith Worker Justice to bring attention to the billions of dollars that are stolen from employees by employers everyday. Kim Bobo is executive director of Interfaith Worker Justice:

: When workers either aren’t paid the minimum wage, when they aren’t paid overtime, their misclassified, they’re not paid at all…that’s wage theft.

In addition to the rallies the organization will be holding a press conference on Capitol Hill where members of the U.S. House of Representatives, clergy, and workers will talk about the problems and discuss solutions. Bobo said wage theft is a national issue.

: It’s happening around the country. Every time the Department of Labor does a survey of restaurants the routinely find that half of restaurants in any given community are stealing wages from their employees.
