Lede: A Los Angeles American Federation of Teachers chapter has approved an anti-Afghanistan war resolution. Doug Cunningham has more.
By Doug Cunningham
With a majority of Americans against the Afghanistan war, L.A. AFT Local 1021 wants U.S. troops and tax money out of Afghanistan. The resolution says taxpayers so far have spent $230 billion on the Afghanistan war. The union says the hundreds of billions to be spent in years to come on the Afghan war are desperately needed for urgent domestic purposes including health care reform, job creation and education. AFT Local 1021 is calling for an end to the Afghan war and the U.S. military occupation of Afghanistan, the closing of U.S. military bases in the region and a total withdrawal of U.S. troops. AFT 1021 says polls show just 25 percent of the American people want to send more troops to Afghanistan. AFT 1021 says it will mount an education campaign among its members on the war and will support antiwar mobilizations. In Chicago December 14-16th U.S. Labor Against The War will hold its third national congress of union antiwar activists from around the country.
