Hi, I'm new to the labor forum, and am posting this information as a favor to a friend.
The NTEU's 150,000 membership is comprised of about 80% IRS employees and employees of the NRC, FDIC, FDA, Customs and Border Patrol, et al.
No doubt most DU members are painfully aware of the move within the * administration to disempower its own organizations and bureaucracy through privatizing, de-funding, politicization, etc.
So at this point in time, there is a strong need for robust and effective leadership to push back against the drive to weaken and render ineffective our government infrastructure.
The current President has served 8 years in this position, and was hand-picked by the prior President. This type of situation often breeds complacency and non-responsive management, and it seems that this is what has happened at NTEU.
My friend, Eddie Walker, has a vision for this organization that is more responsive to local leadership, more participative in organizational climate, and more --what's that word for empowering the masses? oh, yeah--democratic. This being a critical time, and with 18 more months of bureaucracy homicide, you might want to be aware of this. Eddie wants to transform NTEU into a more Progressive, more powerful organization, which I believe will benefit everyone in the workplace by helping to stop the erosion of workers' rights.
If you have a minute, click through to Eddie Walker's campaign website to learn more. I'm sure he'd be happy to have your input or feedback; or even a few $$$'s if you feel so moved.
