Following is a brief roundup of important articles and information for your weekend reading:

* King Soopers workers reject latest contract offer

Contracts covering about 17,000 workers represented by UFCW Local 7 at King Soopers, Safeway and Albertsons expire May 9. Safeway workers are voting Friday and Saturday whether to authorize a strike if a contract isn't reached. Safeway meat warehouse workers have already authorized one.

* Tyson to shift work to Cherokee

Last week, Tyson announced the closing of its processed meats plant in Ponca City, Okla., affecting about 580 workers. Production will be moved gradually to plants in Cherokee, Buffalo, N.Y., and Houston, Texas.

* UFCW STATEMENT ON DOL BUDGET

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) applauds the budget proposed by President Barack Obama's administration for the Department of Labor.

* SUPPORT HEALTH CARE REFORM: GET A T-SHIRT
