High end food market in NYC must pay $150 million in back wages

A Department of Labor investigation of Amish Market’s chain of upscale “on-the-go” stores found the company had violated overtime laws. According to the Department man workers were putting in up to 60 hours of work per week without overtime compensation. Amish Market has agreed to pay $1.2 million in overtime wages to nearly 550 employees. The violations were brought to the attention of the labor department by UFCW Local 1500 as part of the New York State Wage Watchers Program.

1. Mistake. By having to pay this much, Amish market will likely fold, and the workers lose their jobs

The $1.2 million figure is way too high. It's not possible each worker did that much overtime.

3. Yeah... somehow I think it means the TOTAL overtime was $1.2 mil.

Not $1.2 mil. each employee. Although it would be nice to see some abused workers have their immediate financial worries solved for a change. :)
