States Hire More People To Process Jobless Claims

http://www.laborradio.org/node/10093

With a consistent stream of mass layoff announcements there is at least one organization that is hiring. Jesse Russell reports:

The announcement of jobs being made available is rarely a reason for despair, but with more and more companies announcing job cuts each day, state unemployment offices across the country are opening up new jobs to deal with an increase in claimants. Pennsylvania is one of those states that has been forced to hire more employees to deal with the increase of claimants. The state hired 81 more employees in the month of November and they have been dealing with a 41 percent increase in unemployment benefit filings over the same time last year.
