Today in labor history August 25 Established the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters

August 25

Birth of Allan Pinkerton, whose strike-breaking detectives ("Pinks") gave us the word “fink” - 1819


August 25, 1925 - A small group of black employees of the Pullman Co. established the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters in New York City. A. Philip Randolph was invited to address the group and he became the union's first organizer.

1. Thank you for sharing. I love trains, but there isn't much of
an opportuntity for me to ride them. I did do an excursion through the grand canyon. It was so enjoyable.
