5/26 Forum On Mergers, Labor Power, Union Democracy And the Future of the SEIU
by Labor Video Project
Sunday May 6th, 2007 8:49 AM

Hundreds of thousands of SEIU members in California have recently had their locals merged.
Why did this happen and what are the results of these mergers will be part of the discussion. We will also have speakers about the growing debate about where SEIU president Andy Stern
is taking the SEIU nationally.

Forum- Mergers, Labor Power, Union Democracy And the Future of the SEIU

Under a plan to merge locals in California, hundreds of thousands of SEIU members have seen their local merged into bigger locals. At the same time the SEIU which helped support the formation of the new union grouping Change To Win CTW has said that the labor movement has to revitalize and break from the methods of the AFL-CIO. This forum will have speakers from present SEIU members and other trade unionists about the affect of these mergers, the struggles in the SEIU and where it and CTW is going.
