WGA-E, CBS dispute heats up
Guild files unfair labor practice charge

By DAVE MCNARY
The Writers Guild of America East has filed an unfair labor practice charge with the Natl. Labor Relations Board against CBS Broadcasting in response to the net's limiting the access of WGA staff to CBS facilities.

Filing is only the latest in a long line of bitter disputes stemming from the inability of the guild and the net to reach a contract agreement over the past two years.

CBS issued a response Monday that accused WGA reps of violating the contract agreement by "continuously disturbing" CBS employees in their work areas during the preparation of live news broadcasts, resulting in disruption of on-air operations, adding, "As a result of our effort to avoid disruption to our workplace the WGA has now filed a baseless complaint."

The charge, filed Friday, alleges that CBS unilaterally changed terms and conditions of employment of employees and "severely and illegally" limited access of union representatives.
