A GRIEVING woman whose husband was crushed to death at a Merseyside factory has told how it was “an accident waiting to happen”.

Father-of-two Keith Wharton was killed instantly when a steel lifting frame fell on him.

The 41-year-old welder was at work at Stackright Building Systems Limited on the Knowsley Industrial Estate when the accident happened on March 8 last year.

The frame, which weighed more than half a ton, was being moved by an overhead crane when it slipped from its hooks and crashed to the ground.

Mr Wharton, of Kirkby, was trapped underneath and was dead by the time paramedics arrived.

Colleague Christopher Cansfield, 31, of Bootle, was also struck.
