Pat Buchanan and other Republicons say....
that for bush's poll numbers to improve he should stress the point that the economy is good and there are plenty of jobs do you agree? They seem to think that the public is only angry about Iraq and gas prices, which they are but I don't think that those are the only reasons that his poll numbers are down. Buchanan even said that if he started a war with Iran they would go up again, are people that stupid?

2. bush* can claim a grand economy all he wants, people know better
When people are hocking cherished items to pay for gas to get to work next week, they KNOW the economy is tanking. How are they gonna pay for gas to get to work next month?

Prices for essentials going up. Wages going down. People notice things like that. bushes don't.

7. Pat Buchanan was one of the early proponents
of what would become PNAC. Back in the early 80's he wrote some essays on the subject. Those not familiar with where Pat is coming from should research his history.

Crusader to the Max.

9. Pat, though, is not a Republican...he just plays one on TV
He is paid to advocate the conservative view, simply because he used to work for Tricky Dick and USED to be GOP. He does well on TV because he is comfortable in front of a camera, articulate, and can mix it up...he understands the ratings game. Half the stuff coming out of his mouth is not his point of view. He's a long-time isolationist.

Even the GOP howlers against 'librul' media bias refuse to claim him: http://newsbusters.org/node/4603

10. I'm sorry, I have to agree with Pat
People should be angry at bush for about a hundred different things but that doesn't mean they are. I might throw in his unpopular amnesty for illegals program and the deficit but gas prices and Iraq pretty much sums up what *most* people are angry about. I'm not sure if a war with Iran would improve his poll numbers in the short term but I think it is very likely. In the long term, it would be a disaster for the republican party (not to mention the USA)

11. Pat Buchanan
Loser.

Wanna-be loser.

Who gives a fuck what he thinks?

These talking heads KNOW NOTHING, and yet they keep drawing big fat paychecks from their corporate owners.

Why pay any attention to any of them? We know what we know, and we can see what's happening to our country with our own clear eyes.

Pat Buchanan.

Dear god, spare me.

14. Pukechanan needs to hear this question: the economy is good for whom?
Edited on Sat Apr-22-06 02:09 PM by wordpix2
NOT the poor to get out of poverty and NOT the middle class trying to get by on last year's wages while heating fuel, gas, electricity, health care and insurance costs rise 30-50%/yr.

Now that the majority is onto his lies & empty rhetoric, people will hardly believe anything he says.

17. I heard an economist saying we are already in
3% inflation rate ...

If gas goes up, the price to manufacture, and to move all of this stock goes up, and then the mfg raises the cost of that item, and so on, and on...

Who buys their bullshit????

18. And we should stress the point that this is bs
Americans are making less and paying more for everything - housing, taxes, gasoline, health insurance - you name it. Incomes have NOT risen to meet these rising demands. We are poorer in real dollars than before this administration.

20. No, that's delusional
But they have need to believe that something can save their Cause. When there is no such thing.

Bush's ratings on the economy are very easy to follow and the reasons they fall are very easy to identify. One political bloc has left him with every tax cut that goes through and delivers no economic benefit to them.

He turned the Left to opposition on the $300 bribe/'refund' in 2000. Liberals turned to opposition on the 2001 tax cuts, i.e. the refusal to pay off more of the federal debt. Moderate Democrats turned to opposition on the 2003 income tax cuts for the wealthy, which guaranteed deficits. Indies walked away after the fall 2003 'temporary' tax cuts on capital gains, estate, dividends.

Bush spending initiatives and 'programs' and such only seem to firm up support in blocs that still support him anyway. They cause no significant change in the for vs against pollings.

Moderate Republicans are the next bloc, and the next effort to cut taxes is coming up in the next couple of weeks- the attempt to extend/enlarge the 2003 estate tax cut and some other funny business. If it goes through, I figure the wavering worldwide financial markets will tip and probably devalue the dollar and run up T bill interest rates, so that we go from a stagflationary economy to inflationary a la 1979-81. If it doesn't go through (I believe moderate Republicans will turn against it) we will have a nasty but short debate among moderate Republicans and they'll turn on the hardliner ideology, split away from it and Bush.

Iran...remember that Bush's top rating/ceiling is 49% approval on 'handling terrorism'/leadership involving dealing with irrational dangers. The other 51% are entirely out of reach. And this polling category tends to have bloc behaviors- Bush's rating spikes to the 'ceiling' initially and then collapses rapidly and permanently among the leftmost bloc of support with every major incident. Attacking Iran is a polling loser, net, and that within days if not hours now.

21. There is a wide range of issues that contribute to *ss's ratings.
Iraq, gas prices, threat to use a nuke, jobs (both unemployment and underemployment), senior drug program, social program cuts, dishonesty, incompetence, cost of education, NCLB failure, Katrina/FEMA response and followup and destroying our constitution. I suspect that there are many more reasons I missed. The truth is that this idiot has hit every single thinking person with one issue or another.

if our poll numbers go up and if we REALLY can fool all of the people all of the time!

Yeah! That's a great idea! Pat, you're a genius!
