20,000 pounds of CRAWFISH
at the 14th Annual Coast Coliseum Crawfish Festival in Gulfport this weekend. The locals are taking a break from rebuilding their homes and fighting with the insurance companies by sucking head and pinching tail and, most likely, drinking beer.

4. Thanks Mate
We have the best of both worlds. We live halfway between Gulfport and New Orleans. We'll be heading to the big easy in the AM to enjoy the French Quarter Festival, probably won't make it to Gulfport but I have a strong feeling that we'll find something real good to eat in New Orleans.

11. May I suggest
New Orleans instead of Gulfport. Next year's French Quarter Fest is 13-15 April, mark your calendar. There will plenty of crawfish and other great food. Gulfport is just a tad redneckish and the coliseum makes things a little crowded compared to the French Quarter and river walk venues. And if you stay in a hotel in the Quarter everything you want will be within walking distance.

12. WAHHH! I'v developed a shellfish allergy!
I fault my sister becuase she developed it first. I can still eat fish, but now when I see those seafood restaurants advertising all the shrimp or lobsters you can eat for ten cents, all i can do is cry.

13. I was there a month ago with Vets' Gulf March..
MOST of Miss.Coastal area is STILL wrecked & her PEOPLE abandoned.. Residents were PIST then, with no rebuilding, no recovery, NO ANSWERS..
It is shocking,OUR NEIGHBORS are living in 3rd world conditions, on US Soil..8 months, now, some communities still haven't seen a fema or red cross person or dollar. What I saw looked like the biggest carpet-baggin' land-grab scheme since 'reconstruction'.
How DARE Gov.Barber be all smiles, when his COAST & PEOPLE are in such tragic circumstances? Even Jefferson Davis' old Home is nearly destroyed, very little has been done to preserve or restore it. There is alot of anger & despair, down there..
(the BBC photojournalists with us likened biloxi's UNhelpful police to South Afrika's during aparteid.) ..

I'm Sorry, didn't mean to rain on a good crawfish Boil..it just makes me angry, so much time & $$ wasted, and we're looking at the NEXT Storm season coming..and STILL have missing PEOPLE & destroyed communities.

18. LOVE YOUR AVATAR
The fest in Gulfport is this weekend and next weekend (20-23 and 27-30.) Don't know the particulars but (228) 594-3700 should get you the info. To add to the mix there is a crawfish boil contest in Fritsche Park this weekend. We'll be in the quarter tomorrow. We'll be looking for fleur de lis paraphernalia. Where are you playing? I'm looking forward to pigging out from the Riverwalk to Jackson Square, then cooling off at the Tropical Isle for an ice cold Draft.

I made it.

I'll be playing Saturday and Sunday. Listen for a samba band playing in the streets of the Quarter and Marigny, if you are here. ;)

22. Try the Tropical Isle on Bourbon
You can rent their upstairs bar and balcony. Great Bar with a great balcony over looking Bourbon.

I've been going there off and on for 15 years and have never had a bad time.

25. Ya definitely have to have a taste for them
I really enjoy them and the spicier the better. Corn on the cob seems to retain the spices more than anything. I do make a mess of myself, always wear and old ragged shirt and have a roll of cheap paper towels near by.

26. Crawfish Pizza KICKS ASS.
I used to live in Baton Rouge and every crawfish season we would buy about 15 pounds of mud bugs and have a boil party. The left overs were shelled and chilled to be put in pasta or on pizza for the next week. Pizza with crawfish, onions, and bellpeppers makes my mouth water.

Paint me jealous now that I live far from the Gulf Coast.
