Kingdom Holding Company???
Edited on Wed Apr-19-06 02:43 PM by Protagoras
Is this a joke? I just flipped on CNN and there's a commercial on for KINGDOM HOLDING COMPANY and they're bragging about their giant headquaters in Saudi Arabia and how they own well...almost everything?

I knew there was some PR stuff going on to keep the SA image up but this commercial just creeped me way out...someone tell me it was a joke please.

edit* Crap it's not a joke http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_Holding_Company

1. This commercial is a few months old
at least. I was boycotting CNN for awhile so it maybe be more than a few months...

2. What your seeing is a bit of "Quid Pro Quo"
The Saudis are pouring money into CNN and other media outlets in return for favorable news coverage. Have you ever wondered why their relatively few stories about Saudi Arabia and almost never a bad story about the kingdom? The alliance of BushCo and the Saudi Arabian Royal Family is an obvious story that never gets told and their are dozens more in regard to terrorism, the Bin Laden family, the fact that 18 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudis etc etc etc

3. Yes indeed, it's for real. They're one of the big three media owners.
They also own a bunch of other stuff. I guess you could say they're the Carlyle of the Middle East.

4. It's more than a few months old...I've been seeing it for at least a year
Sometimes it goes into heavy rotation, then disappears for awhile. It appears to be back.

5. Yep, I saw it the other day and commented on it in a Carlyse
thread. They are really working hard to show us how wonderful they are and, BTW, that they own our asses. At least, what the Chinese haven't bought.

6. I've been avoiding CNN in favor of Countdown for almost a year
with AAR and NPR I didn't realize I was missing this kind of propaganda from SA...didn't know it was going on for months. God that's unsettling.
