My new improved Tinfoil hat theory...
:tinfoilhat::tinfoilhat::tinfoilhat::tinfoilhat:

Okay, just suppose and this is a big suppose that all the rumors flying around the web regarding moron* wanting to nuke Iran was all part of a plot to get the nation scared shitless. Suppose that the real plan is to get the nation into a lather over this, especially us Progressive Liberals, only to do an 11th hour save the day sort of thing. His* ratings go up, he* looks like a leader* and it appears as if he* has what it takes to "deal with "roge" nations".

We on the other hand would be made out to look like chickenlittles.

and the right would have a field day exploiting this point.

am I crazy?

why do I think this? we all know that moron* well, is a moron* and "doesn't do nuance'" but perhaps they* are looking back to the past and taking a page from Kennedy during the Cuban crisis. The real story was, Kennedy agreed to remove our nukes from Turkey in exchange for the Soviets removing theirs from Cuba.

But the story that was floated for years was that he stood up to them.

I'm just saying that moron* and his* room full of dopes could be pulling one over on the nation in hopes that they will make themselves* look good in the end.

Not that they have ever lied about anything before....:sarcasm:

7. duh, forgot that very obvious angle. yes...
we bitch and complain about the price at the pump going nuts, but then...poof! moron* with a backroom deal with the Iran gov't has gas price plummeting at the pump.

But first he still has to make his oil buddies lots and lots of boat loads of money before he pulls the plug.

2. Nope....Won't Happen That Way At All.
It would imply that either our King or the leader of Iran, had any incentive to work things out, and come to a diplomatic solution.

This is IMPOSSIBLE. You've got 2 lunatics, hell bent on leading the world into nuclear holocaust if necessary, just to protect their own interests and whacked out "religious" beliefs.

No way in the world this works itself out in the next year. We'll be at war before that happens.

5. It's important to remember
that the foundation of the neocon/AIPAC spy scandal involved plans by powerful forces to have a change in the form of government in Iran. I think that removes any chance of this being a set-up by the Office of the President. The OVP is very seriously pressuring for a conflict in Iran.

9. The problem is that the Iranian wacko doesn't have any nukes
and won't have for at least ten years, so the holocaust thing will be one-sided. Also, I just can't make my crystal ball work on this thing. The sites that the US wants to bomb are supposed to be so hardened that only a tactical nuke, "bunker-buster" would be effective; so if the US goes that route, what will be the fallout (pardon the pun)? I get the "opening of the gates of Hell" thing, with the Iranians/Shiites going all out, total war (and who could blame them), but what of the rest of the world? I just can't make the old crystal ball work on this...

13. We hit Iran. A nuclear cloud rains down on China...
Edited on Wed Apr-19-06 03:39 PM by IanDB1
and then China claims the right to launch a single nuclear strike on America and demands that we accept the casualties without retaliation.

And there is NO WAY Bush or our leaders would accept that.

Personally, neither would I. Okay, maybe if the Chinese want to drop a small one on Crawford, Texas.

Remember how China went batshit when we accidentally bombed their embassy in the middle of a war zone in Bosnia? And that was an accident!

Do you think they will sit still when we knowingly drop a nuke upwind of them?

15. yeah, the China thing is beyond worrisome
Edited on Wed Apr-19-06 04:40 PM by sui generis
Bush is scared shitless of China - not because we need to be but because he really doesn't have the faintest idea what a real foreign culture is or how to deal with it outside of his America-centric world.

We didn't know how to deal with a simple demand for an apology over the spy plane issue - we sure wouldn't know how to handle another knowing test of wills in a constructive manner.

Best thing is stupid little bush boys should not be playing with nuclear matches. They could get hurt, along with all the rest of the planet.

16. Bush would probably just threaten to kill all their pandas in our zoos
And then the Republicans would pass a resolution renaming things like "Freedom Finger-Traps" and "Freedom Take-Out."

Right now, Bush is sitting in Jeff Gannon's lap and watching "The Flower Drum Song" to gain an understanding of Chinese culture.

Next, he'll pose for a photo-op at a Chinese restaurant. The workers will say, "Thank you Mister Bush. We Like you!"

You know, last time Bush went to China, he stood next to The Great Wall and said, "Mister Hu, tear down this wall!"

3. I've thought of this.
It will give his pResidency the appearance as if he actually did something, when he really did nothing and he'd probably get a Nobel Peace Prize to boot.:puke:

4. But he looks like an idiot while doing it
And a majority of people are learning not to trust any grandiose statements.

He's got a major "credibility gap", to use a old phrase....

8. Agreed, this bunch haven't been able to come up with any
solution to anything in six years and I don't expect them to handle Iran any better! Nuance is not in their vocabulary, they can only hit and curse.

6. I don't think that's crazy at all
in fact it's a political hedge strategy with long and short positions.

The other benefit is that it polarizes the third world. Some defiant ones are going to announce that they're looking for yellow cake, the problem of nuclear danger will now seem to be imminent and global, and only the republicans will have appeared to have done any tough talking on the issue.

It is most certainly a Rovian win win ploy (in their minds)

If we pitch a nuke we demonstrate our mighty mightiness in Hiroshima/Iwo Jima fashion and everyone quakes at our approach (so we think)

If we DON'T pitch a nuke, we're the great arbitrators, mediators, diplomats.

If nothing happens on either front, we're (POV the republicans) are the ones who pointed out that the world is full of scary people wanting scary nukes while us silly democrats were "whining" about civil rights and welfare and spotted owls.

11. And if we're hit by terrorists first (or APPEAR to be hit by terrorists)..
then we get the big, "I Told You So" from our crazy End Times Prezident and we nuke Iran anyway.

12. That could've been the strategy behind it.
If so, I think it's been mostly a failure. Not many people think we're actually going to nuke Iran.
