Bush's threats to nuke Iran has a lot of people suddenly paying attention.
I have relatives, friends and acquaintances who never want to discuss politics. Some of them can't even name one of their senators. But over the past few weeks, something really strange seems to have happened. They're the ones starting conversations about Iran and nukes, and it's not Iran that has them worried. It's Bush.

A good example is my sister, who spends a lot of time playing bridge and thinks that politics is just some kind of card game that she never learned. She actually said to me yesterday, "Do you think Bush is crazy?" Something like this coming from my sister is the equivalent of a two year old asking about rocket science. (She's not stupid. She just never had any interest in politics.) But she lives in a blue state, so I guess she's not the best example.

However, friends and acquaintances who couldn't care less about politics have also asked me similar questions. Just because I pay attention to politics, they're under the mistaken impression I know what Bush is really up to. Hell, I doubt if Poppy Bush even knows what junior is up to.

Have any of you had similar experiences? Has anything changed other than Bush scaring the crap out of a lot of people?

The days continue and one day it will end.

I'm sorry other people feel fear.

Edited on Wed Apr-19-06 07:58 AM by acmejack
Now that scares me! "We should do it now before they get the bomb"-these assholes are truly insane, I am having nightmares about this shit. Folks, They have moved B-2s to Diego Garcia.

The last time I was at Diego Garcia was just before we last played in Iran almost 26 years ago today, on April 24, 1980, Operation Eagle Claw, where Murphy's Law played out to the maximum extent possible. The point being Diego Garcia is the favored Staging Point for Iran. How much do you want to bet that each has a couple of B61-11 bunker busters onboard at this moment?

I'd walk away from them, if I were you...

In fact, I think I'd walk away pretty rapidly.

15. Cyrano and baby-mouse.....
I hear you...believe me, I hear you. I knew it was bad but even I was shocked at how utterly Kool-Aid drinking they are. Don't worry, I'm detached. Have been for a long time and usually tune them out (encounters are rare...lol). That statement, however, was even over-the-top for them and had to share....

20. Great Scott!!! What scary people * followers are........
But it seems to me the ones that ARE asking themselves if our pResident is truly insane and even voicing such thoughts to others are the very ones that could HELP US to put that madman and his evil conspirators out of power and into prison where they belong.

After all, if the WH started getting flooded with snail mail, email, petitions and phone calls from its RightWing BASE, threatening to desert him if he nukes Iran or sends our troops anywhere again, maybe he'd be more likely to respond to THEM?

I don't know, but it's getting scarier by the minute in a world where such subhumans inhabit our halls of power and have access to WMDs.....

Why doesn't anyone point out that OUR govt is the one which can't be trusted with WMDs, btw????? (I don't mean here at DU, of course, but around the world!)

23. I'm related to people like that as well
On 3(!) sides of my family since Mom remarried and her husband's kids are like that, too.

I would gladly pay large sums to have all memory and knowledge of those motherfuckers erased from my head.

Every time I'm forced to interact with them in any way, I feel sick for days or weeks -- guilty of having lent aid and comfort to the enemy.

If my mother's (widowed) husband was not such a decent sort of person I would just tell them all to go to hell and break off contact permanently.

I will certainly never forgive those satan-felatin' Xtians!

11. The mom of a friend (he says she's a big * fan) called him last night....
Was complaining about the high gas prices.

He told her, well, if your boy would stop threatening to attack Iran, esp. with NUKES, then perhaps gas wouldn't be so high.

Her reply was that she hadn't heard the news of threats against Iran.

He told her it's been in the news since the weekend.

She promptly said she'd better let him go and hung up.

Some people just don't *want* to know the truth.

Which will be including a lot of the media right now, a large majority of the conservatives, all the total fuckwits who prefer being nuked to being embarassed.

I don't think they really believe the world's real, do they? They think it's all some sort of story or game.

16. They live in a cocoon. They have their 3BR, 2BA, 2.3 kids, SUV
and pizza delivery and Blockbuster rentals.

As long as nothing directly interferes with that, everything else doesn't matter.

but a co-worker came up and asked him about global warming. Shocked the s**t out of him. He said it was the last person he would expect to ask.

21. I think we should be gentle with those who are just now waking up
to the dangers of this administration and the utter insantiy of GWB. Encourage them to ask the questions they are asking and don't condemn them for their lack of discernment up till now, as that might just drive them back to their unreal world to tough it out there.

I'm not telling anyone else how to behave, however, I'm just really reminding myself that such people as the Bush supporters described in the OP and a number of posts in this thread are probably feeling pretty fragile right now, so it's in our best interest to encourage them to keep on seeing the truth instead of berating them for helping to put Dumbya&Co in power. It's awfully hard to fight back the "I told ya so's" that keep rising in my thoughts when I hear some people finally admitting that they might have been wrong about this pResident, but I'm refusing to voice my frustration and am instead offering information when it is sought by the brainwashed red-state-minded among us.

At least it's a good thing that we DO have a great deal of information to offer whenever we are given a ripe opportunity, right? It may be the first time since this administration was put in power by the SCOTUS that we are going to encounter OPEN MINDS in many U.S. citizens who have simply felt they were rationally conservative and patriotic up till now.

I say we make the most of these opportunities! Perhaps enough citizens will wake up in time to stop the insanity emmanating from the White House before it's too late.

22. I welcome them to the ranks of the informed. The problem is, what
do they and we do to stop the Nuker in chief? This guy and the thugs around him couldn't care less if ten million people gathered on the Washington Mall to protest.

They have all the power and as Winston Churchill said, "Dictators who ride to and fro on tigers dare not dismount."

We may be able to change things in November assuming we can get fair vote counts.
