CEO hits a BILLION $$$
What's wrong with this picture?

quote......
The Wall Street Journal is all over the story of UnitedHealth Group CEO Dr. William McGuire, the richest guy you've never heard of. Today the CEO is calling for the end to stock-based compensation for his company's executives. The Journal notes the irony:

The catch is this: the former pulmonologist has amassed one of the fattest stock-options fortunes of all time. In a Page One article today, The Wall Street Journal reported that Dr. McGuire's unrealized gains on UnitedHealth options total $1.6 billion (he also pulls down $8 million a year in salary, plus bonus and perks).
end quote.......

1. United Health Group is infamous for paying the lowest wages
possible to workers. The hospital blue collar workers are mostly paid minimum wage to $9.50 an hour.

Personally, I draw the line at the silver leaf tp.

2. How many insurees died because of insurance failure to deliver
MD ordered treatment -- so this bastard can be "compensated".

This is the most obscene news items I've read in a while.

4. This is one of the biggest reasons why I think medical companies
and drug companies should NOT be publicly traded on the stock market! I have no quarrel with most types of businesses being publicly but when it comes to anything related to health care, I find it morally and ethically offensive that THEY are listed on the stock exchange. I believe this is one of the primary reasons that health care and drugs are so freakin' expensive, because the CEOs are concerned about the "bottom line" (especially theirs), and pleasing the stockholders, and NOT about what is ostensibly their business: the health and wellbeing of the people of this country.

And for this man to have so freakin' much money in his stock options is also obscene. He may be a doctor, but I'll bet he cares more at lining his pockets than he does about the people his company is supposed to be helping.

14. You do have a point there.
It still bothers me though, that health care companies can be publicly traded. Just sticks in my craw.

10. And 18,000 Americans a year die from diseases that
are curable because they can't get or afford health care.

15. PacificCare sucks.
So maybe it's good that they are merging with United Health Care.

At least UHC pays the bill, something PacificCare had problems doing resulting in most doctors refusing to accept it.

I hope PacifiCare isn't the company that's absorbing UHC.

16. Yep, raising a minimum wage worker to $12.00 an hour
would be a Godsend to them. The CEO's won't do that in today's "greed is honorable" theme.

17. there sure is a lot of money in misery
I hope he drowns on his own juices. What the hell happened to non profit hospitals? Think of the medicines that 1.6 billion dollars. would buy.
