CIA Urged US Court To Drop Case Citing Absolute Power Of Secrecy

NEW YORK -- The government urged a federal judge on Monday to reject for national security reasons a lawsuit in which the wife of a former covert CIA employee seeks to force the government to deliver on alleged unfulfilled promises.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah S. Normand made the argument to U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain, who asked both sides to submit further papers in the case in Manhattan before she rules.

Normand cited a submission last month by CIA Director Porter Goss, who said state secrets would be divulged that could jeopardize national security if the civil lawsuit by the mother and three children, all listed anonymously, proceeded.

The family's lawyer, Mark S. Zaid, asked the judge to relax the secrecy so he can at least telephone his clients to build his case.

secrecy is cited out of potential embarassment to the Agency. If you want to feel what it's like to live in a totalitarian society, go work for the CIA.

5. If Goss is involved, he's protecting Herr Busch & the NeoCon Junta....

...and not the CIA. Remember, Goss was appointed by Busch to institute rigid NeoCon controls at the CIA, and to push out those people still capable of independent thought. The Junta doesn't care about the CIA at all...they are actively stripping away responsibilities and handing them over to Pentagon intelligence functions.

7. No doubt that Goss is protecting Fearless Leader

but the CIA has a history of mistreating its former employees that left under less than favorable circumstances. Other agencies are also culpable in this practice.

Porter Goss, a rightwing NeoCon supporter and the most recent CIA Director, was appointed by Herr Busch. Goss is the individual seeking to limit disclosures of sensitive information in court.

I'm betting that the disclosures will do far more damage to the NeoCons than it will do to actual National Security.

I'm also betting that Goss does NOT represent the wishes of the CIA rank-and-file.
