Fags, Flags and Fetuses
Flag burning, gay marriage, abortion at top of Senate

By LAURIE KELLMAN

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Protection of marriage amendment? Check.

Anti-flag burning legislation? Check. New abortion limits? Check.

Between now and the November elections, Republicans are penciling in plans to take action on social issues important to religious conservatives, the foundation of the GOP base, as they defend their congressional majority.

In a year where an unpopular war in Iraq has helped drive President Bush’s approval ratings below 40 percent, core conservatives whose turnout in November is vital to the party want assurances that they are not being taken for granted.

I wonder if Americans are going to fall for this crap again.

How does someone burning a flag affect your ability to put food on the table for you family?

Is someone getting an abortion going to prevent you from getting medical care for your child?

Will 2 men getting married result in your taking a pay cut or losing your job?

1. Of course they will.
They always do.

My next door neighbor will let her preacher tell her how to vote again.

And it will be against the candidate who isn't a raging homophobe but who would do his/her best to make sure she doesn't have to work two more jobs in order to support her kid.

Yeah, we've got our priorities straight.

Recommended.

6. Scottie said that they are advancing Bush's agenda
not the people's business like it should be, but the President's agenda....

2. You forgot immigration...
I don't think you can go 10 minutes without some RW hack on the news or radio ramming this steaming pile down peoples' throats. However, I think that is a battle the far RW is losing.

3. these things matter in a country like ours -- i.e. two party system --
and there is political parity.

the problem lies in not promoting leftist think in the same way the right wingers promote rightist think.

paul hackett comes out and says that anyone against gay marriage is unamerican -- it's clear, concise, unambiguous, muscular -- and eliminately promotable.

or the war and our troops in iraq is wrong -- again clear, concise and promotable.

how about taxes -- which sets peoples hair on fire -- if you want a country -- a society -- pay your damn taxes and be glad about it.

vigorous stands on god, guns and gays has it's attractions to people -- and if we are closely divided -- it can win elections.

just my two cents.

5. Speaking plainly with conviction goes a long way with the American voter
You're right. Paul Hackett resonated with voters. I had a 13 year old kid walk up to me and say, "Paul Hackett Rocks!" I was blown away by the fact that some teenaged kid was inspired by him.
