Opus Dei Asks for 'Da Vinci' Disclaimer
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/D/DA_VINCI_CODE?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=HOME

ROME (AP) -- The conservative religious group Opus Dei has asked for a disclaimer on the upcoming film based on the best-selling novel "The Da Vinci Code."

Opus Dei, portrayed as a murderous, power-hungry sect in the novel by Dan Brown, wrote in an April 6 letter to Sony Corp. that a disclaimer would show respect to Jesus and to the Catholic Church.

"Any such decision by Sony would be a gesture of respect toward the figure of Jesus, to the history of the Church and to the religious beliefs of viewers," Opus Dei wrote in the letter, which was posted on its Italian Web site.

"The Da Vinci Code" contends that Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had descendants, and that Opus Dei and the Catholic Church were at the center of a cover up.

3. Opus Dei Needs to Review Some Basics
It's a MOVIE. That means "make believe story."

Jesus.

8. You don't understand...
Opus Dei, the Catholic Church and indeed organized religion as a whole, have made a CAREER out of "make believe stories"
I pisses them off when others have bigger advertising budgets, that's all....

12. The Catholic Church could have a huge advertising budget if....
they didn't have all those pesky pedophile lawsuit settlements to contend with.

7. Here's a disclaimer for Opus Dei
Edited on Sat Apr-15-06 08:46 PM by LiberalPartisan
Opus Dei is an ultra-reactionary women hating patriarchical group comprised of self-flagellating wingnuts whose raison d'etre is to return mankind to the dark ages under the heel of religious zealots. Any act, decree, statement or postion proferred by Opus Dei which is consistent with the teachings of Christ is an accident and will be corrected in short order.

9. I liked the story but the characters were too flat
it read more like a screenplay to me. Which is fine, I think it'll be a good movie. As far as the church getting their panties all in a bunch... tough shit, you spend 2000 years trying to control people and eventually it's going to come back and bite you in the ass...

11. read the book, it was cute
not the biggest thing out there, i think the harry potter books have more creativity and character development. As a christian, i would like to tell the rest of my religion that this is a WORK OF FICTION!!!!! why do we need to create anymore drama in our lives...seriously, first year in my family that my mom didn't go to good friday because she was soo tired of being so emotional and couldn't take it then. I just think the whole thing is really overblown, the book was cute and fun, even though it was lacking historically, it was fun to learn somethings. :)

13. Read the book too...
It was decent for suspense fiction in that it was an entertaining read, written in an easy-to-read style.

Do I regret reading it? No.

Do I think it is worth obsessing over, like so many other have? NO.

Do I plan on seeing the movie? Nah. If it's any good, I'll rent it on DVD or something.
