These words are one of the most basic rights inherent in our legal system. Many seem so gung-ho to condemn Barry Bonds for steroid use before any judicial process has occured. First, Bonds has never tested positive for any banned substance. He is still playing, despite the naysayers, at,what, age 42, when most players have called it quits. Yeah, he is not a media darling. He is the Miles Davis of baseball. No other player has achieved his prowess. Thousands, if not more, players have taken performance enhancing substances. Does caffeine count? Tobacco? Bennies? How many hall of fame players do you want to exclude because there was no testing in their era. Bonds has not been found guilty of anything, and IF he is, it MAY be that he lied. Lied about doing something that was NOT illegal when he did it. If you want to discredit him, you should also discredit thousands of other less high-profile athletes, in every sport from bicycle racing to basketball to car racing, and maybe horses too when cocaine was given before each race. Doesn't anyone think Babe Ruth took something? Ty Cobb? Pete Rose? How many more? DOES IT MATTER? No subtance could make Barry Bonds the great player that he is. Perhaps the best of all time (500+ steals, 500+ homers, an exclusive club) Innocent, until proven guilty.
