U.S. Death Toll Climbs Sharply in Iraq...
BAGHDAD, Iraq, April 12 - The death toll for American troops is rising steeply this month, with the military today announcing the deaths of two more soldiers, bringing the number of troops killed this month to at least 33.

That figure already surpasses the American military deaths for all of March, and could signal a renewed insurgent offensive against the American presence here.

1. And why are we there?
See www.icasualties.org Our volunteer military is being used by big business. They use the kids while the kids have hopes for earning $ for an education and seeing the world.

6. They fluctuate from month to month.
Always have. I think they were sharply down last month because the soldiers were mostly staying in their bunkers. They've got them back out on patrols this month, I think.

8. well technically
they may have been right in the short term as far as militarly deaths go, but we all know the long term is a different story, as this thread is clearly demonstrating. Additionally, the sectarian violence killing Iraqi civilians has not dropped off one iota.

Keep in mind they will stop at nothing to try to put a positive spin on things...

7. "The reports of the death of the insurgency
were greatly exaggerated." Of course, in this war the deaths are not the indicator of how dangerous it is,(although I am angry and disheartened by the 2365 America KIA and 40,000 Iraqi deaths) but also the wounded and the wounded not RTD (return to duty). An earlier poster pointed out the Iraqi coaltion casaulties page.

Total Wounded: 17469
Wounded NON-RTD: 8058

So, that is 10,423 killed or serious wounded in 1125 days. Unfortunately, I don't know of any non-classified source which gives exact type of injuries.

As with all wars, short term projections (Yippee we only had 30 KIA in March) are way off. The average KIA will be 2-3 a day, with 7-10 WIA a day for the next 3-5 years...

Because President Hillary is going to be unable to pull out troops because she will be afraid of appearing as The weak woman, doesn't have the balls to send me to their deaths President.
