12. Ok.
Fear, hate, greed, and power struggles dominate the nation and the planet, but a fundamental shift is occurring, and will grow as people's minds, hearts, and spirits leave those old patterns behind.

Peace and prosperity spring from hope, empathy, and integrity; be those things if you wish to be part of that shift.

28. Beginning of the Year; End of the Year
Democrats at the beginning of the year: "Oh Republican strategists are so brilliant, so wise; we need better 'framing' and 'consulting,' too. They have their finger on the pulse of all the 'sheeple,' inferior to me, of course. La-de-da-de-da. What should we do, how should we act; Republicans and ad campaigns are everything."

Democrats at the end of the year: "God help us, this is the most criminal Administration, the worst Constitutional crisis our country has ever had--worse than Nixon! They are ripping up, destroying, every law, every program, every protection anyone ever had against the oligarchy. We need to fight to save this democracy, explain things, tell the truth before it is all too late. The New Deal Generation was right all along--We need another New Deal. Fight before we lose it all!"

As horrible as it seems, one good thing about all this Republican/corporate threat is that it made Democrats, and the American people, wake up, get serious, and pay attention to what is really happening. Remember, the first real sign of revolt (or, I think, anyway), was when the old people rose up against the neo-cons and their wussy "D"LC alliance, and said--"Get your Goddamned hands off our Social Security," and taught us all how to act. That generation is still watching over us, protecting us.

29. 1. Bullshit talks 2. Straight talkin' walks
Comparisons b/w now and "1984" surfaced on DU yesterday. Seems purty simple that when we are flooded with BIGGER BETTER ALL LIES ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, the antidote would be a potent, miniscule (as a start) amount of truthtelling.

Whose truth? Our own. Not the truth we think people wanna hear (people that exist in our imagination out there somewhere, some demographic or cliche), not the truth we think will win converts most effectively (even tho it's not QUITE what we believe ourselves) but simple honest truth. Simple.

Simple? Not so? Not so simple when people ("even on DU") imagine that these folks are anyone but us and who we know. We still see threads that imagine some fantasy folks out there who need to wake up-- when there's a lot of folks right here who need to wake up (a few posters acknowledge that they contribute to the mass denial too)...............

....wake up to the fact that there is no one else responsible for the state of your nation than you

--there is no one else taking care of your responsibility for your nation for you

--there is not a magic bunch of activists who are fixing everything so you can ignore it

--the few legislators who are willing to risk everything need our attention and our support

--if you ain't part of the solution, you part of the problem

--if you spent the past 25 years of the Reagan Nightmare goin with the program and just woke up to how fucked up things are, well thank you very much and good luck

--it's not all or nuthin-- small efforts, whatever is doable and effective and empowering for you and yours COUNTS FOR A LOT (even if that is continuing to vote long after you think it doesn't matter)

and finally:

--those imaginary folks that you may condescend to imagine as less informed or less engaged or less literate or less educated or in need of patronizing "framing" in order to get the concept, those folks know EXACTLY what is goin on in their country. They are waiting for some straight talk.

:patriot: :toast: Happy New Year All. May our soldiers and their families and all the families (around the world) impacted by Bush's war of choice find some peace and safety in the coming year. :grouphug:

:hi: (Thanks fer shuttin down the party with me HS-- you do DU proud).
