Great Pic and article about DeLay in the Galveston Daily News

When it comes to politics in recent years, members of the Bay Area New Democrats have had little to celebrate.

So when word spread that Congressman Tom DeLay would be retiring, club president John Cobarruvias was more than happy to buy the first round of drinks. The group threw an impromptu party in a Clear Lake bar called Boondoggles on Tuesday night.

“It is a shame that Tom DeLay has decided not to face his constituents in November, but on a positive note, the end of the smell of corruption has begun,” declared a jubilant Cobarruvias, who has made a public spectacle of protesting against DeLay in recent years.

Last year he dressed in a prisoner’s outfit outside the National Rifle Association conference in Houston with a sign that read on one side, “Don’t DeLay, indict today,” while on the other the message was a bit more graphic; “Make Tom DeLay my (jailhouse expletive).”

the dart boards aligned with the table seats in the background.

Could make for a stressful supper.

Maybe that's Republicans Only seating.

10. Here is one of my prisoner protest signs

We had 250+ at that protest.

We had another protest at a university with over 150+ outside. DeLay had invited over 7500 people and had only 50 show up!

7. No, he's not running away
Edited on Wed Apr-05-06 11:22 AM by Peanutcat
This is all part of his plan. He runs for office, raises lots of money, wins, then quits and uses the money he raised for legal fees while allowing some other Republican to take his seat, who, being new, is given a benefit of a doubt because "at least he's not Tom DeLay!" while I'm betting DeLay will be running things behind the scenes.

edit: Goddammit! I didn't used to be this paranoid before the Bush administration came into power!

5. I've gotten drunk in that bar many times.
I used to live about 3 blocks from there. I could crawl home.

I had no idea that there were any other lefties besides myself in the area at the time.
