15. I have tried everything.

I have tried 20 other asx and asf websites, and they all work in the media player 9 for mac. ( ifilm etc )

I cannot figure any reason for them not to work other than a server issue on can of fun. Media player sees the file and sits there for a minute connecting and then comes up server cannot be reached.

I don't like the boycott idea, as LiveOak has been so good to us in the past, but I cant really be bothered to go there anymore if I can't see the media files.

with MACs that are running Windows Media player for MACs. I don't have a MAC so don't know why it works for some MAC users and not others, but it definitely is a client issue or else NO MAC users would be accessing the files. Unfair characterization to say that COF doesn't want MAC users on site.... puleez.

You're right, however, about it not being the only site for clips. I have before, on many occasions, posted instructions for how people can make their own clips-in fact, the instrucs are on a link in the research section. If you see or hear something great, consider clipping it and sharing it.

I have the same problem, incidentally, with some sites that have Apple files.

24. Ah. Media player 9.

I think you might try downloading Media Player 10. I was getting a pop-up for WMP 10 whenever I tried to play his recent videos. Without going into the strangeness of my computer, try downloading WMP 10 and see if it helps.

40. Media Player 9 is the most recent Mac version.

You may need to open a port in the Sharing preferences panel. But I didn't have to do that. I'm using the firewall on my router and the one built into the OS.

LiveOak's response is, other mac users can see them, it ain't my problem.

I haven't seen too many mac users who say they can see these, but the ones that can are running version 7 of the player, it is no longer supported or available for download anywhere..

This also means they haven't upgraded their player since 2002, so bully for them it works there, but I for one don't feel I should have to regress my computer to a 2002 state of software, to see files that as far as I can tell work from every other site in the world supplying them.

ifilm, microsoft, game sites, all use asf files, all currently working for me, thus I have to believe that the problem is not on the mac users end, but the servers of live oak. Either the codec he is creating them in, or the way they are hosted is gumming up our chances to see anything off his site.

I spent the day on this, and I am a coder/http dev so I have a little insight.

I didn't think it was a server issue necessarily but a client or firewall issue. I also said I don't have a MAC so I can't troubleshoot this directly. I did NOT say "It ain't my problem" or anything like it.

for my "it aint my problem" quote.

he didn't ever say that, I am mad, but I am not mad at LiveOak, I am mad at the way microsoft always makes things for mac that are just substandard.

Now I spend the better part of my day debugging things like this, so if I came out and sounded like LiveOak is a jerk, I apologize, and I can tell you from experience, he is anything but. He does care about the clients for his site, and is currently working on solving this to make everybody happy.

His service in getting these clips out is invaluable to us, and I guess by not having them today, I am the jerk, by missing his great service so much

Canofun obviously doesn't want traffic from Mac users. They switched a week or so ago and Mac users can no longer access their videos.

They know and they have yet to fix it. So we will just go elsewhere.

if you are running Windows Media Player X - 7.1.3 these will work

the problem, since the release of media player 9 this hasnt been working, nor addressed by M$

if you can find a version of media player 7 good for you, I cant and it has been removed from the M$ site.

Anyway an upgrade to the very bleeding edge of mplayer worked and I mailed liveoaktx a "hail mary" idea for something to look over on the server, which probably won't fix it but hey, worth a shot.

He said this Abromoff scandal is going to be ALL PUB! Lots of people might have taken money, but it could have been legal. It's too soon to tell how many will be hurt, but I think it will be about 6 lawmakers and more than that in staffers.

Regarding the ASX streaming errors. Have your ASX files build so that there is a rollover for HTTP as well as MMS, so that those who are behind corporate or residential firewalls can access. Just a suggestion.
