Randi's Style Starting To Annoy Me
Edited on Thu Mar-30-06 07:34 PM by journalist3072
I love Randi Rhodes in the fact that she gives you a lot of information that's not in the MSM, and she encourages you to do your own research as well.

But her style on the radio is really getting to me. She's very rude to her callers.

I was listening to her on the way home from work this evening, and this man called in to talk about immigration. And she kind of asked him like "where's that coming from" as if to sort of say 'why do you want to talk about immigration when I've been talking about x, y, z.'

Anyways, he was trying to make his point, but she kept wanting to butt in and make hers, and she even told him "You're not letting me talk."

Well, SHE wasn't letting HIM talk. And then she hung up on him.

Randi never seems to want her callers to really talk. She has to be the one to do all the talking and have the last word.

3. Yeah, she's like the "others" when she feels like hanging up on them.
I still listen though. I've found "the power" radio too. I've got XM in my car and one day was trying all the stations, and 169 is "the power", it's an all African American radio station, and I love it. The Blacks all talk of the same things Randi and other Air America radio hosts talk about, only they, The Power, radio hosts talk about it in the way it affects them!! It's a great alternative, and it's a fantastic station.

9. Joe Madison turns me off
He's just like Randi in that he can be very rude to callers sometimes. I used to listen to him first thing in the morning, while getting dressed for work, and I just couldn't take it.

I am impressed, however, with Al Sharpton's new radio show. Al Sharpton has a new, syndicated talk show called "Keeping it Real with Al Sharpton."

One of my local stations airs it from 1-4 PM, so it conflicts with Al Frankken's show that comes on from 12-3 on another AM station here.

I find myself tuning into Sharpton's show more often, and tuning in less to Frankken's.

He ensures that he has at least one segment on his show per day, dedicated to Hurricane Katrina and its survivors.

It's a really good show.

I try to listen for all three hours she is on here, but I end up screaming at her because the person will call and they start to make there point, and she interrupts two three times until they almost forget what they called for or she has them talking about something else.

I end up changing the station until Mike Malloy comes on he's my favorite of all of the air america hosts but I like others.

5. I enjoy listening when she's not taking calls.
Even when she's talking with someone that agrees with her, she seems impatient and at times, a little arrogant to them.

8. Yes the caller even indicated one of her people told him to ask about it.
Did anyone else catch that? I thought that was odd and it didn't strike me as made up. I couldn't figure why anyone would say that, specifically.

She's abrasive. She reminds me of a knowledgeable and worldy but old-and-annoying aunt or something. Working her breasts or some other liscivious tidbit into conversation as often as she does I also find a needless element for a political talk show. And, speaking of, the "Bounce yer boobies" song is fun for 15 seconds but she plays like the 3 hour live Depeche Mode remix that goes on forever, I swear. I hope the bitty that recorded that is getting royalties because Randy plays it into the ground- at least she has on the Fridays I've been listening.

It's just...really the best word for it is tacky. She's capable of much better- I like her just not the distracting directions that she introduces into otherwise very useful information.

PB

10. Yes. She has some good information ...
Sometimes I am waiting for her to go more indepth about a particular subject and she goes off into something else about her personal life and this continues for a while until I can't take it so I change to micheal savage which I hate then I can't take that so I put in a tape of some other show.

22. her information is mixed - sometimes good, sometimes not.
you have to double check Randi's info for yourself.. it's generally not the specifics that's wrong, but the general assertions that are wrong.. again you have to listen with a critical ear.

12. I hate it when she takes calls
In fact I hate it when most of AAR take calls from right wingers.
Randi is so moody and unpredictable. Sometimes she's incredibly informative or extremely funny, and other times I just change the station to music instead.

15. what really bothers me about all of them is they do take alot of calls
from rw asshats which in one sense is good but in another sense it sucks becasue the rw radio assholes take calls from your standard "Oh Hannity/Limbaugh i'm a liberal but i agree with 100%" or they let an actual liberal talk for like 10 seconds and then they cut them off. The RW has more than enough outlets to express their views, AAR needs to start taking more calls from actial liberals.

16. She might as well not take callers
I have a local freeper radio guy here who shouldn't take calls either.

What's getting on my nerves lately is not that, but her impersonation of Bush. It grates.

I wish he was on AAR daily; he's very knowledgeable and I like his style. He could take Jerry Springer's place.

Abrasive, Caustic and Abusive is what counts as "success" in Amurika...

and "success" means everything.

this kind of crap that passes for public affairs under the guise of "talk radio" or commentary is beyond disgusting..

I hate it.

23. You're all right, but that's Randi's personality.
I think THAT's why she's so successful. Seems people either love her or hate her...a lot like Limpballs, ya know.

She generates controversy, intentionally!

You wouldn't want all LW hosts to sound the same, would ya? I wouldn't!

I listen to Randi occasionally, and to Franken sometimes, but mostly to Hartman and Schlutz. There are many people on Du who hate both of them too.

I think it's GREAT that we finally have a choice!!!!!

26. She seems to be rude to callers even before they begin.
This is nitpicky, but Randi doesn't even greet callers at all; she just does a very Larry King-esque: "Brian in New York." without saying "Welcome to the program", or "Hi there".
