Sickest Story Of The Day

Hard to find any words for this:

NEW PORT RICHEY -- A mother confronted a neighbor who allegedly raped her 7-year-old son and threatened to call police, but reportedly accepted $600 to let the man molest her son again, authorities said.

The 30-year-old unemployed mother was charged Tuesday with capital sexual battery and child abuse. The neighbor, Nicholas Quiles, 48, has been charged with capital sexual battery. Both are being held without bail. It couldn't immediately be determined Thursday if they had lawyers.

and "W" stickers.

I am in a constant battle here in Florida.

On edit: Florida should have it's own news section for oddities that make it out of the state everyday.

Thank you I'm sure this will be on the "TV box" later.

Another mom-as-pimp story (although "Petal" is fiction). Her daughter ends up being one strange bird.

Last time I checked, pimping was illegal. She was not "acting out" on previous abuse, she was selling someone else's body.

19. Bullshit.
It's not a major media angle. It sounds like you're suggesting that the media excuses child abuse by defending the abusers on the grounds that they've been abused themselves. Provide some evidence. The question of whether or not most of those who abuse children were abused themselves is a legitimate sociological and psychological question. In order to understand a harmful cultural phenomenom, It helps to discover the root causes. None of that means that the media is guilty of trying to excuse such sick behavior.

22. Not what I was getting at...
Sometimes when a woman commits a crime that the media wish to sensationalize, they immediately begin discussing her psychological/emotional state and background in a manner leaning towards 'something bad happened to her before' and attempt to connect one thing to the other.

20. yes
not sure how that would have an impact, except perhaps in sentencing, in which defense attorneys try to present mitigating factors to try to lessen the sentence - and don't know that it would have much of an effect.

17. Another fine example of W's America...
When you hit bottom in America, you really hit bottom. When all the cards are constantly stacked against you (unemployment, lack of education, lack of belief in the American Dream), I can see how you might lose all moral sensibility out of blind desperation and fear.

Of course, she really could just be a fruitcake... Same with the neighbor.

29. Hmm I don't know about that

Not that I'm excusing the mom about this at all, but it seems appropriate to me to charge the despicable, reprehensible neighbor.

24. This IS sick.
And it has to do with a profound lack of morals--perhaps even a mental illness--NOT living in Florida, or being poor, or hungry, or republican, or white, or minority--or anything else.

I do not know of ONE church, or even very many homes in America, where you could not go and explain you were starving and someone would not slap together a sandwich for you (I've been both giver and receiver in that regard). I've worked in restaurants, fast food, 7-11's where we ALWAYS had something past date, stale, old, out of the fryer too long that we'd give away during our shift or at the end of the night.

The next time you're tempted to blame this on 'Jeb' or 'Bushy economy'--or anything like that--ask yourself if YOU lived in Florida and someone was hungry wouldn't YOU give them something to eat? Well, so would the rest of the country--this wasn't about money to eat, clothes for the kid, or freezing in the winter.

27. I get SO tired...
...of seeing all the exaggerations here. It's NOTHING but assumptions that make posters here say it's 'Florida', 'rednecks', 'Bush economy' etc. You really think that that makes US look better? People here are smart enough to know that the people who did this could easily be DEMOCRATS--so lets be honest for once! We don't have to lie, or exaggerate, or make stupid assumptions that ARE NOT STATED AS FACTS BY THE SOURCE to look like a good party or good people! Don't you understand that?

Some people make jokes; they don't come off too well in the written form. I get SO tired of people who take things so seriously (and maybe too personally?).

When I see something (or what I think is an over abundance of things) that are over the top exaggerations, well...maybe it's time to go and fold the laundry or get some chores done. IOW, it's time to take a bit of a break.

Don't you understand that?

36. Well, I DO have laundry....
I don't know.....the first things I read here this morning was that Reagan wasn't really shot (he made it up to get reelected), Reagan faked his Alzheimer's disease to avoid a trial on Iran-Contra, we need to tear up the Constitution and start over, and we need to get rid of all the political borders in the world! (Seems like LOTS of feelings are running a little high!)

Oh, and a terroristic little cat in Connecticut was put on house arrest...!

37. Wait til afternoon
it's get better,

The hilarious part is when start talking about illegal wiretaps, outing CIA agents, and oh yeah and the best part that has me rolling by 4pm is when I think about the 100,000++++ Iraqis that have been killed in the name of whatever/morals the Repukes are calling this war this week.

Seems like our leaders are putting their hands on the constitution in order to uphold the bible, and not what they were elected to do. Which is to put their hand on the bible in order to swear to uphold the constitution. The Repukes in leadership have really got these 2 confused and hence is why we have some of the situations listed above.

Yeah it's about morals alright - just tell it to the Iraqis

Feelings running high on DU?!?!?!? - man you should have been here during the Hacket and Sheehan debates - talk about blood on the walls.

38. Whoa,
It looks to me like you're actually looking for things to be offended by, and if that's the case, you'll surely have no problem finding them. There's a wide range of views here. I didn't read the Reagan thread, but I bet there were posters rebutting the assertions that you cite. However, I started the thread about the Constitution. I stated clearly that I started it because of a remark I saw on another thread, and that I didn't support scrapping the constitution. 90% of the posters also took that position. It seems like you're focusing on minority view points. Interesting.

I mentioned the Paul Hacket and Cindy Sheehan debates, as you'll find out DU is anything but lock step, people have all sorts of different opinions here.

Go check out the immigration threads if you would like to see some current infighting, hell 2 nights ago we had journalists verbally going off against each other over sourcing information.

So as "W" would say all options are on the table when chatting at DU.

Good luck:beer:
