The "Contract w/ America" Crew Exposed Once Again
All of these individuals cited, were elected in 94 and signed the Contract with America.

Plank 10 of the Contract called for elected officials in the House and Senate to be capped at 12 consecutive years of service. They could be re-elected after sitting out a term. Never accomplished, but these 34 politicians have either signed the contract, or made pledges at the time or even more recently to hold themselves to 12 years.

Guess how many aren't running for re-election in 06?

You guessed it. 0

2. Quite. They should be held accountable. But one thing,
some Dems have broken their pledges too.

But this "Contract" is definitely more eyebrow-raising these days. Should be an issue - note that I use that awful "S" word again, "should".

3. Tim Johnson (IL-15) wasn't elected in 1994.
I'm pretty sure he didn't sign the contract, either. He was first elected to congress in 2000.

On the other hand, he won a three way Repub primary in 2000 with support from a term limits organization. He signed a pledge at that time to only serve three terms, and in turn benefited from a fairly heavy dose of tv ads from the term limit group, touting that pledge.

Once elected, he made the disingenuous discovery that seniority matters in a legislative body. This revelation apparently never occurred to him during the 26 prior years he had served in the state legislature.

And yes, he is running again this year, in direct contradiction to his pledge.

4. "If you repeat the same tired LIE often enough...
...you are probably a Republican."

I doubt anyone is surprised that Repubs have broken
yet another 'solemn vow'.

6. The whole purpose of the Contract was to show Republicans don't LIE
They sure showed us that all right.
