6. this is why it's silly to break it out by county.
cook county includes some very rich areas as well as some very poor areas.
but they're just counting the number of millionaire households, not the percentage of millionaire households per capita or the total wealth per capita, etc.

if alabama decided to all be one county, they'd probably top the list. how meaningless is that?

5. this is an odd measure of "wealthiest'
NUMBER of of millionaire households in the county.

so the sheer size of the county is a big factor.
los angeles county is ginormous, and while 262,800 is an awful lot of millionaires, l.a. county contains many more people below the poverty line as well.

also it just counts number of millionaires, so a multi-billionaire counts just the same as a considerably more modest household that just happens to have had their house appreciate a lot in the last few years.

in fact, breaking it down by county, as opposed to city or metro region, seems a bit silly to begin with.

12. This is a whacky way of measuring
In reality the wealthiest counties are those with the highest per capita income.

16. unfortunately, someone more interested in generating hits and selling ads
than someone interested in giving people actual facts or useful analysis.

i'm sure they don't care to field questions like "what does 'per capita' mean?" not much profit for g.e. in answering questions.

15. i'll bet l.a. county is ALSO the "poorest" county in america
if we simply count the number of households below the poverty line as our silly definition of "poorest".

18. my point was that their way of measuring "wealthiest" is silly
l.a. county surely has more households below the poverty line than costilla county does, simply because l.a. county has so many more total households.

22. Yeah, it depends on what part of LA county they're talking about.
If they're talking about the costal areas, then fine. If they're talking about Compton or Watts... :yoiks:
