Anyone see/hear DemocracyNow on the immigration issue today?

I learned more from that than I did from watching CNN with hubby the hour before. (But I think he mostly only watches that because he thinks Robin is cute.)

Anyway, what I got out of it is that the House bill is lousy, the Senate bill is slightly better, but that in both cases there are way too many impediments to obtaining a green card and a lot of really harsh measures are planned in terms of oppressions and permanent detention (Gitmo for Central Americans??). In particular, I am worried about the point that illegals who have committed fraud to gain employment would not be allowed to become legal. And if I am to understand the situation correctly, that would be the majority of the 11 million or so illegals here right now.

I understand concerns about not wanting to reward criminal behavior, but the idea of punishing people for taking care of their families by pulling their families apart breaks my heart. I hope we can find a way work this out. If anyone has any suggestions on what I can do to help, please let me know.
