Did Andy Card resign in the middle of the night?
I heard about the resignation on this morning's Washington Journal, and the timing seemed so odd to me.

Didn't Bush say something last week about "I don't want to say anything
yet" when asked about staff changes?

5. The story is that
he requested to resign 3 weeks ago. Over the weekend Card was with ** at Camp David and it was finalized.

6. Blinded by the light, wrapped up like a douche, a resignation in the night
Yeah, I know the real lyrics, but this was funny.

8. maybe he was tired of getting cheeseburgers for Bush
From "Ron Suskind's as-told-to account of former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill's stormy tenure, The Price of Loyalty, reports Billmon:

"Go get me Andy Card," Bush said to one of the Secret Service agents. Card, the designee as chief of staff, entered from an adjoining room . . . Bush looked impatiently at Card, hard-eyed. "You're the chief of staff. You think you're up to getting us some cheeseburgers?"

Card nodded. No one laughed. He all but raced out of the room.

9. Then he'll be kept on with an enormous salary just to fetch
hamburgers - nobody seems to go off the payroll when they leave this adminstration.

11. about the timing
but first -- did he jump or was he pushed? "rumors" and blather have been circulating on the talkinghead shows about bush* needing to throw out card....

ok - the timing:

yeah, seems strange - this sort of thing is usually reserved for a friday night dump, as in "Card expected to resign" followed by talkinghead blather on the weekend and a formal announcement on a Monday

but look at what's going on and where attention needs to be diverted

-- It's-a-done-deal-attack-Iraq memos
-- Iraq has pretty much told us to get out today
-- immigration/guest worker program protests
-- two weeks of bush giving the same speech over and over again hasn't done anything substantial for his numbers
-- republicans are running for the hills to avoid photos with bush* at fund raisers

so what's ahead? talkinghead blather about whether or not Card's departure will help bush*, followed by weekend talkinghead blather about the same.... mental masturbation

meanwhile all the other stories fade into the woodwork

my opinion: so bush* dumps one croney for another. this is no shake-up, he's just reshuffling the deck. don't expect anything but "biddness" as usual

12. I never did buy into that "shake up" crap
as everyone he picks to administration positions are ALL THE SAME.

:hi: Rad.

how's Pookah? :D
