600,000 porch rockers sold at Walmart RECALLED!
Wal-Mart Rocker Recall
Posted 3/23/2006 03:56 AM

Some rockers sold at Wal-Mart could be dangerous.
Story by Doug Fritz Email | Bio

Wal-Mart and the Consumer Product Safety Commission are recalling more than 600,000 rocking chairs. The recall is issued for the Mainstays Love Seat Rocker and Porch Rocker. Wal-Mart has received 45 reports of injuries connected to the chairs. Patty Davis with the Consumer Products Safety Commission says, "The hazard with these Mainstay rockers is that the runners are over curved and poorly constructed." The chairs being recalled are the Mainstays Love Seat Rocker, model IT-13380, and the Mainstays Porch Rocker, models IT-13379 and IT-13270. They were sold at Wal-Mart from May 2004 to September 2005.

Why do people buy this junk? This site doesn't say it, but the injuries reported were serious, like broken ribs, concussions, etc.

3. I don't know, but I suspect they do FLING you out of the chair
backwards. If you read the part about the rocker rails having too mcuh curve, that would make sense to me. Think about it. If you are relaxed in a chair, and suddenly the chair flips over backward, don't you think you'd get hurt?

6. I don't doubt that people are getting hurt,
and by no means was I implying that anyone was overstating the case; it's just that the injuries sound graver than I would associate with a collapsing or tilting chair.

I share your wonder about people buying shoddy crap.

4. Why don't more people openly question why things are so shoddiuly made?
Buying underwear that develops holes after a mere THREE washings is bad enough at the prices they sell 'em for.

But a chair?

Sheesh. Do corporationsd have any shame?

I mean, one or two bad units is inevitable. But there comes a point where there's obviously a problem. 600,000 definitely qualifies...

5. The medical concern is that these chairs can make you
go off your rocker. ;)

8. Wait, it's the media's fault, there's good news here see it?

599,955 didn't have a problem, why not report that all those people are comfortable rocking on their porches? And, why not report that they were given a great deal on them too? :sarcasm:

Many of the injuries occurred on display models in Wal-Mart stores.

Now, those folks are going to have to find a way to get them back to Wal-Mart since Wal-Mart ain't like picking them up don't ya know, and if Wal-Mart says you gots to bring them back, well by gollie you ain't getting no refund until you do. Unless your porch rocker butts up against the front of the house than you gots no worries abouts bein hurt no you don't so everything gonna be ok once the paper gets to da next day and makes the birdcage coverin. And how many of them peoples has a computer don't cha know? Who gonna tell them?
