Pat Robertson defines what 'political correctness' is
"I think that we have a pressure in our society right now called political correctness where it is not appropriate any longer to criticize anybody for their religion, their lifestyle, their race, their creed, their color, national origin, disabilities, or anything. You can't criticize anybody for anything. And so, if somebody has a quote lifestyle, that's their thing, and if somebody said, 'I'll make it with a duck', well, you know, who are you to criticize them. Well that isn't what the Bible says. The Bible has standards, and the standard makes it very clear that the acceptance of homosexuality in a society is the last stage after God has given a people up."
–Pat Robertson, 700 Club, October 17, 2000

So...

If you are a Religious Pluralist, then you are 'politically correct'.

If you are Tolerant, then you are 'politically correct'.

If you do not adhere to the IDEA of race, then you are 'politically correct'.

If you help people out who have disabilities, then you are 'politically correct'.

Thank you Pat Robertson. We now know what it means to be 'politically correct' and 'politically incorrect'.

1. The Bible says a lot of things
including "love thy neighbor", "love thine enemy" and "he who is without sin should cast the first stone".

2. That's right, Pat....
You CAN'T criticize people for their race, creed, color, national origin, or disabilities. Last time I checked, no one has the power to choose or change those things!

But I agree people should not have sex with ducks. And I'm guessing few do. Except in the Red states.

4. I hope history will not forget Pat Robertson...
The legacy of his ilk should be taught in schools on the same pages as Joe McCarthy and Richard Nixon

Pat Robertson, Rick Santorum, Neal Horsley, etc.

I just don't know why.

I actually agree that there is something called "political correctness" and it can be annoying. Kind of "holier than thou."

But THAT is the worst definition I have EVER heard of it! How can you criticize a person because of the items he listed? With perhaps the issue of "lifestyle" which they will debate endlessly, excepted...how can you criticize race? Disability?

10. That's different...
Many figure that leftism is simply polemics and confrontation, with little of the history behind it--so they are 'rude' for the most part and simply passing off their 'inflated' sense of the whole movement and/or ideology.

What Robertson is talking about is license to discriminate and engage in racist bigotry...that 'strawman' sures gets around these days.

8. Why exactly would anyone who isn't a bigoted piece of shit...
... ever criticize someone for their race, color, or disabilities? Its funny how Pat is just dreaming of the day that he can put down the disabled without being called on it. That doesn't sound like something Jesus would do.

It's getting harder and harder for these bigoted homophobic closet white supremacists to spew their hatred with the same impunity that they did in the fifties and sixties isn't it?

To quote the great Barry Crimmins:

"Political correctness is a straw man that blowhard reactionaries attack in lieu of reasonable refutations of sensible arguments for progress."

14. That's the entire essence of the neo-con mindset.
They want to take us all back to the "good old days" where women were subservient chattel, black people and minorities all "knew their place" and it was good to be 10 percent of the worlds population yet controlling 90 percent of the wealth.

13. I guess that means...
If you are not a Religious Pluralist, then you are 'Republican'.

If you are not Tolerant, then you are 'Republican'.

If you adhere strictly to the IDEA of race, then you are 'Republican'.

If you could care less about those who have disabilities, then you are 'Republican'.

15. Given that, in my universe, any creature with a brain
has to give his/her/its informed consent before one may fuck it, I suppose my notion that sex with a minor, or a mule(as one prominent Georgia politician likes to brag,) is a criminal offense is out dated in this republican oligarchy. What I find even more offensive is the constant lecturing by these moral midgets on matters wherein they, themselves, are the most prominent offenders.

Last year, I undertook a small study of sex crimes wherein the political preference of the offender was known or could be deduced.
Of seven hundred twenty six (726) incidents of anti social sexual deviancy, seven hundred twenty three (723) were republican!

A little thought shows this not to be as surprising as it seemed, on the surface, as people who are compassionate, that is, those who are capable and have made a practice of putting themselves in others' shoes tend to self select themselves as democrats.

It has not always been thus. Many people still see a particular political affiliation as merely a banner to fight under, but the flocking of people of "liberal" or "progressive" inclination to the democratic party is encouraging.

If there were a change in the electoral system to allow for the growth of a viable third party, I suspect both the democratic and republican parties would be minorities. What's left for us to do is to purge (I dislike that word) the party of miscreants, sexual predators, false color hide-outs, and the uber righteous religious types.
I am convinced that we will still hold a majority, even after the declaration that all republican lite liars and other spiritual bacteria are personae non grata, whether there is a change in the electoral system or not.
The good people will own this party!

16. Well, now we know the most important part of Pat's faith: stone throwing.
Edited on Tue Mar-28-06 07:38 AM by Rabrrrrrr
Which has been pretty evident for the last 20 or whatever years, but wow, here he goes on officially announces that the best and most enduring and exciting part of being a Christian is casting stones; and now the nasty liberals are making that harder for him to do.

You watch Pat, in ten years, he's gonna turn Taliban-style Muslim and move to a country that still has stoning and laws enforcing ricidulous moral standards.

Oh, and he'll be fucking goats, too.

20. Why do they always jump to making it with ducks?
Who "makes it" with ducks? (and he's not talking chefs!)

As far as I can find, anasaphiles just like to take pictures of ducks, and/or collect duck-themed nick-knacks.

So why is it that when Pat thinks about "illicit" sex, what springs to his mind is "with ducks"? Paging Dr. Freud!

Does that principle work for people who want to criticize Christianity, some Christian sects, or certain Christians?

23. I largely agree with him.
It is widely agreen that it *is* no longer appropriate to criticise anybody for their sexual orientation (assuming that's what he means by "lifestyle"), their race, their colour, their national origin, or their disabilities, and there are all sorts of forms of criticism of religion and creed that are inappropriate. That *is* what political correctness is. The only point he's wrong about is that that's a bad thing.

I note with interest that he has left sex/gender out of his list; I wonder what to read into that.

P.S. disclaimer: I'm from the UK. After having gotten into several heated arguments with Americans about whether or not populism is a bad thing before figuring out that they meant something completely different by it, I feel I should point this out when making a post about a term which looks from the OP as though it may be used to mean something slightly different in America.
