FRANKLIN COUNTY: NOW THEREFORE the Franklin County Democratic Committee submits that his actions and admissions constitute ample grounds for his impeachment, and that the General Assembly of the State of Vermont has good cause for submitting charges to the U.S. House of Representatives under Section 603 as grounds for George W. Bush’s impeachment.
And with those words, the Franklin County Democratic Party signed onto what has become a growing political snowball in the final days of winter.
On Monday, March 13, Steve Schlipf, Secretary of the Georgia Town Democratic Committee, proposed to a meeting of the Franklin County Democrats that they adopt what has become known as the Rutland Resolution, a 500-plus word resolution unanimously passed by the Rutland County Democratic Committee on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The resolution calls for the impeachement of Pres. George W. Bush.
“This is high crimes and misdemeanors,” Schlipf said of the resolution. “It doesn’t get any bigger than this. Watergate is nothing compared to this.”
The resolution accuses the President of, among other things, “repeatedly and intentionally” violating the U.S. Constitution and other U.S. laws, “particularly the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and the Torture Convention;” taking away the Constitutional rights of Americans, and “willfully and repeatedly” violating the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and boasting “that he would continue to do so, each violation constituting a felony...”
Unlike the handful of non-binding Town Meeting resolutions that passed earlier this month, which call U.S. Rep. Bernie Sanders to file articles of impeachment against Bush, the Rutland Resolution could lead all the way to the nation’s capitol.
