They want your images/stories too!
<http://www.hurricanearchive.org/>

It looks like most of the pictures they have, so far, are from New Orleans and Louisiana. They have a bunch of images from the Lower 9th Ward and St. Bernard Parrish.

I know we have a lot of Mississippi survivors here who have some pictures and especially stories that hopefully could be contributed.

Here's more info from this link:

Smithsonian Institution joins the Hurricane Digital Memory Bank

Joining the Hurricane Digital Memory Bank in partnership is the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History (NMAH). NMAH began building a collection of objects and photographs illustrating Hurricane Katrina's impact along the Gulf Coast, the rescue of survivors, and the recovery efforts in local communities. During a September trip to the affected areas, Curator David Shayt collected 20 objects and Photographer Hugh Talman shot more than 900 images. Currently the museum has no plans to design a Katrina exhibition, but the amazing collection of photographs is now available through HDMB.

NMAH partnered with the Center for History and New Media in 2001 to produce the September 11 Digital Archive.

2. Yes, and for some reason, it's become rather quiet lately...

...I'm not sure why. Maybe they are up-loading their pictures?

There really are some amazing pictures there, here's one: "Lower Ninth Ward New Orleans"

3. I hate to say it, but there could be a bit of
hurricane fatigue setting in. It's been an ongoing topic for 7 months, and we're about to face another probably brutal season. :(

4. I know, but we can't allow ourselves the luxury of becoming complacent.
The 2006 Hurricane season starts June 1st, that's 61 DAYS from today, and the forecast is that it will ONLY be as bad as 2005.

:kick:
