My only hope is the media will rise up QUICKLY.

7. Red herring. At FOX their personal views become news
Unless anyone can prove that Green's comment or his personal opinion has affected the way his network or news divisions cover Bush then this is a red herring. We know that Ailes and Murdoch's personal opinions affect the way the they run their news divisions. Hell, according to "OutFoxed" there a memos issued to tell reporters what news they will cover and *HOW* they should cover it (talking points/spin).

18. I think this Rovian twist is gonna blow-up.
Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 02:32 PM by C_U_L8R
The press has pretty much given Bush a free pass for all kinds of sins...
from his cocaine-infused youth to his missing national guard service
to all kinds of present day shennanigans... most of it criminal...
and of course.. for persuing a disasterous war of aggression,
unprecedented national debt, sucky economy (at least for the middle/lower classes)
etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

Rove's idea to turn on the press may give Bush's base a little boost...
but look out when the backlash hits. Nixon tried the same.. "blame the
press for all your fuckups" strategy and it came back at him like a
brick-ladened cream pie.

30. I agree completely,...
...and I've felt the same way since Bush was (s)elected (see below). I think going after the media is the biggest mistake Rove & Co., could possibly make, so I hope they continue to escalate.

My customer review of Mark Crispin Miller's Bush Dyslexicon from Amazon.com:

Bravissimo!, July 24, 2001

Having met the author at a recent appearance in Oak Park, IL, and having enjoyed the presentation and discussion afterward, I was expecting to not only enjoy "The Bush Dyslexicon," but to also be enlightened by it. Well, to paraphrase the illustrious putschist himself, I found that expectations rose above that which was expected. Along with Hatfield's "Fortunate Son" and Ivins & DuBose's "Shrub," this book struck me as a fitting capstone to a "trilogy" of sorts: Hatfield's best material was about W's youth (lasting well into his 30's, of course), "Shrub" was best at exploring his financial and political ascent in Texas on the coattails of H.W. and Prescott, and Miller's examined how his "election" to the presidency happened. All that begs the question, however, of whether we got what we deserve. The author makes note in several places of the cynicism of the GOP (and the media) in assuming that the citizenry are complacent morons; the clear implication being that he thinks they are not. I have to disagree. Television has replaced religion as the opiate of the masses, and most seem perfectly willing to be lulled into the forgetful, soporific state that TV induces - just keep it short and entertaining. The masses are so accustomed to instant gratification - TV's specialty - that educating themselves on real issues, a project requiring time, effort, and (perish the thought!) critical thinking, is out of the question. Democracy is not a gift from a benevolent government, something our founders knew quite well. It must always be held on to, even unto death, by the people; that is difficult when they've got a bag of Cheetos in one hand, and a remote control in the other. My hope is that the oligarchs who stole the presidency will mismanage the nation in a fashion so blatantly criminal that even the rightists in the media can't ignore it. Perhaps, as the author suggests, it will take the administration making an enemy of one of the media conglomerates for them to attack W with the same vigor exhibited in the Clinton Follies.

Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 02:51 PM by rocknation
If he'd written this last night, raising a ruckus over it would be intelligible, at least. But do they really intend to crucify him over something he wrote nearly two years old? If they do, ABC should do a news special about Bush's speechifying problems!

31. It does make one wonder....
...who originally got a copy of this e-mail--and how--and why they held onto it all this time. The timing of its release is obvious with a major step-up in the campaign against the so-called free press, but who leaked it to Drudge? That's what I would love to find out. I posted jokingly before about illegal NSA spying, but if it ever came out that this is a product of Bushco's spying on U.S. citizens, well, my guess is that the shit would hit the fan in a big way.

Removing my tin-foil hat...for now. :)

32. Go Mr. Green!! Bush's illegal spying program was busy
hunting down comments from reporters after one of Bush's speeches, imo. No wonder Osama is still on the loose!

They're really trying everything now to stop Bush's free-fall in the polls. Now's the time for the media to use its power to finally do what they're falsely being accused of, tell the truth.

There's a saying I remember 'you may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb' ~ not sure of the origin, but I think it applies here. Bush is blaming them, instead of denying or even referring to these false charges, they should simply do what they're accused of, and way more, stop working for Bush, he's not very grateful anyway, start working for the American people and tell the truth. Let them know that this tactic will only make matters worse for them.

34. Holy shit! Look what I just found in my Inbox!

Not just a joke, there's a point. Without the full headers, an email is meaningless. We have no idea of the source of either of these. Even with the complete headers, those could easily be faked in a text editor, printed, scanned and then sent to Drudge. In fact, if I had any email from John Green, sent at any time, I could easily whip up a better fake than the one Drudge is touting here.

So fuck them. It's gonna take better proof than a printout of an email with no fucking headers.

26. Freakers are going to be salivating
and working themselves into a frenzy over this. We better be standing by to send words of support to Mr Greene and ABC.

See, in the freaks minds, the only ones that are allowed to be biased are Faux News, Limpballs, Insanity, O'Really, and every other "cookie-cutter, local wing-nut radio talk show host".

Anyway...the "One-handed typing keyboard commandoes" will be in full righteous indignation mode"
