This is just weird - "Pro-Life" + Brittney Spears + Art?
Was doing my daily nosing around in Freeperville and ran across this:

Dedication Honors Nude Britney Spears Giving Birth

Pop-Star's Pregnancy Idealized in Brooklyn 'Monument to Pro-Life'

BROOKLYN, NY (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- A nude Britney Spears on a bearskin rug while giving birth to her firstborn marks a 'first' for Pro-Life. Pop-star Britney Spears is the "ideal" model for Pro-Life and the subject of a dedication at Capla Kesting Fine Art in Brooklyn's Williamsburg gallery district, in what is proclaimed the first Pro-Life monument to birth, in April.

Of course the freeper comments were pretty much about what a whore she is... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1601738/posts

Is it just me, or does this seem really weird? I wonder how Brittney feels about this.

2. This description is certainly TOO MUCH INFORMATION!
Natural aspects of Spears' pregnancy, like lactiferous breasts and protruding naval, compliment a posterior view that depicts widened hips for birthing and reveals the crowning of baby Sean's head.

The monument also acknowledges the pop-diva's pin-up past by showing Spears seductively posed on all fours atop a bearskin rug with back arched, pelvis thrust upward, as she clutches the bear's ears with 'water-retentive' hands.

There isn't much "seductive" about a woman in labor--especially at crunch time!! One feels an incredible empathy for the workout their body is getting, especially if they're hollering, but seductive?? Come on!

I think this is....odd, at best.

3. Did they spell her name right?
If so, then this rapidly fading "personality" is probably happy as a clam that somebody, anybody, is giving her some attention.

4. That's because it's not giving birth, it's saying
"Screw me" only a little less delicately.

Childbirth looks different, trust me, even when it's on all fours. This nude just wants a little prostaglandin action going to start the whole process off.

5. Location, location, location.
"An appropriate location for permanent installation of "Monument to Pro-Life" by Mother's Day is being sought by the gallery."

Hmmm. I'll bet my fellow DUers could suggest some good locations for this work of... errr... art.

22. I say
We put it in the foyer of the Georgia state courthouse, or whever Roy Moore wanted the 10 Commandments.

Put a little note on it that says, "No hard feelings."

6. This is hilarious.
So weird. And it sounds like the press release was written by someone who doesn't speak English as their first language.

Anyone know if Britney Spears is actually pro-life?

:sarcasm: It's right along the lines of driving with her baby in her lap instead of the car seat.

So she's a saint now, eh?

8. DEEPLY WEIRD
Plain creepy. Are you sure this isn't some sort of parody site or something? You can actually stand at Brittney's backside and see the baby's head coming out?

It is interesting, and revealing, that the spokesperson equates his Pro-Life values with choosing motherhood over a career. Apparently, the Pro-Life position is not only that a pregnant woman shouldn't get an abortion, but that a woman should get pregnant.

I just followed the link from the freeper post. It would make me feel better if it were a parody - I just can't imagine anyone taking the whole thing seriously.

13. Favorite quote from the press release:
"Britney provides inspiration for those struggling with the 'right choice'," said artist Daniel Edwards, recipient of a 2005 Bartlebooth award from London's The Art Newspaper. "She was number one with Google last year, with good reason --- people are inspired by the beauty of a pregnant woman," said Edwards.

Yeah, THAT'S why she was Googled so much--because she was pregnant. And of course because so many other pregnant women couldn't make a decision unless they looked up Britney on Google first. :eyes:

16. That's hilarious. Especially,,
because she didn't acutally give birth. She had a C-section scheduled a month early so that her body would not get de-formed too much because of the last weeks of pregnancy and actual child birth.

I do not deny the fact that Britney has a habbit of getting down on all fours atop a bearskin rug, but it sure as hell ain't for giving birth. :spank:

20. Damn awesome art....if REAL a very important piece!
Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 02:17 PM by LeftHander
At first I was ...."Is this real..." then I think I understand the artist's concept if not the joke.

If this sculpture is real....and the concept behind it a "art slam" on our culture it is all the better.

This pretty much sums the culture of hypocricy. Spears is a fabricated persona (even though a real person) that is as much a product of our TV culture as she is a product of nature. The freaky thing is she is so "unatural" and product of popular culture that to depict her giving birth in in grey tones on all fours on a bear skin skin rug take the idea of the culture of life to a almost surreal plane.

It is surreal. That is why is is so errie.

This could be one of the most important sculuptures of our time. And the casual pose with such a peacful face over a bearskin rug is simply outrageously rude.

The vulgar beauty of this has not been seen since 1881:

The Little Dancer by Degas caused riots when it was shown. Mark my words we will hear alot of this sculpture in the coming months.

OHMIGOD I can't stop being repulsed and laughing....

24. For sure REAL - Daniel Edwards
Exhibited in 2005 with a very contraversial show the included a Death Mask cast of Ted Williams severed head.

Now this guy knows how to rock the art world.

The sculpture is real...I am pretty sure and the impact is going to be hilarious to watch unfold.

23. Britney had a planned C-section.
That way she wouldn't have to go into labor, feel pain or have her privates stretched. Where's that depicted on the statue?

Oh, John? In a larger statue, I think I even saw some nipple. I mean, forget about being able to see the baby's head emerging from the birth canal--her NIPPLES are visible. I mean, seriously. NIPPLES. GET THE DRAPERY!!!
