Opinions, please!
Has anyone heard of Direcway internet satellite? If so, what have you heard about it, good or bad? I live in an area where I can't get DSL or cable internet, and I'm tired of dial-up with it's slow speeds and losing connections all the time, so I want something better, and it seems satellite internet is the only option left to me.

1. Well, what I didn't like about it when I was investigating was the high
cost of startup, couple hundred bucks to get started. Also, the pretty high cost of monthly service for relatively slow speeds. The killer to me was that if you went over a certain amount of usage on your "unlimited" internet service, they will start to throttle down your speed to just barely better than dial up. That being said, I haven't personally used the service, just my observations from my researching.

2. So where
Did you find your information? Was it from someone you knew who had the service or what?

3. Upload speeds are slow and everything elese you were told is true.
And yes, I got my info from a subscriber, I investigated for my own use as did several others when I lived in a rural area. I would wait for the Broadband over the electrical transmission lines which is starting to be deployed in some areas now.

The electric companies see it as a real profit center, so I don't expect you will have to wait terribly long. The technology requires a minimal investment by the your Electric Provider so that shouldn't be a problem, either.

4. I'm not talking about
Internet over electric lines. I'm asking about satellite internet, and specifically Direcway. Look, right now my dial-up speed it 26.4kps, and sometimes it get up to a whopping 28.4kps,and that's not mentioning losing connections all the time. Just about anything would be an improvement.

5. Check out DSLreports.com. They have a bunch of links to reviews
of services. You can also do a check by your zip code, so you can see what other folks in your vicinity have used. It's a great resource.

8. I tour with a major musical act and we use satellite
internet on our tour bus. It seems to work fine. The upload speeds are pretty slow but unless you send alot of files out it won't affect your surfing. Download speeds are decent and the connection always seems good, and thats on a wireless connection on a moving bus... However, if you can afford it and you have it in your area I recommend Cable. Comcast is my provider and it's screaming fast, the service is good and in the 7 years I've had it it's been down maybe 3 or 4 times and never for more than a few hours...
