Lieberman freaks on the air...Joementum Gone Wild!
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 10:34 PM by xray s
Touchy touchy touchy. National Review's favorite Democrat has a snit.

http://www.firedoglake.com/2006/03/22/no-shit-holy-joes-cracking/#more-1522

McEnroe: You probably know that I wrote in the Currant last Sunday that if I had to vote in the primary right now I would, with some sorrow vote for Ned Lamont simply because you have kind of drifted so far towards the Bush Administration whose policies I don’t approve of very much. Tell me why I’m wrong, tell me why I should vote for you.

Lieberman: Well I…I think that your statement just then was as ridiculous and unfair as your column was. I was really upset by it. I don’t get to hear you a lot because I’m in Washington but if you’re saying that on the air really I hope your listeners are taking it with a grain of salt.

First off let me go to something that really bothered me. You have this line saying that I’ve come to a point where I’m saying that those who do not parrot my support of the war are unpatriotic and then you take TOTALLY out of context something that I said in a speech that I gave last December when I came back from Iraq and I urge you to go back and look at that whole speech.

McEnroe: Okay, tell me why…

Lieberman: Let me just finish this!

McEnroe then went on to try and read the quote in question and force Lieberman to respond but Lieberman kept cutting him off, he wouldn’t have it:

McEnroe: Let me read the line to you and then you tell me how to interpret it.

Lieberman: I know what the line is! I said it!

McEnroe: Okay but the listeners don’t.

The line actually reads:

"It’s time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be the commander in chief for three more critical years and that in matters of war we undermine the president’s credibility at our nation’s peril."

Lieberman’s response?

Lieberman: This quote is totally out of context. You might have gotten it from the bloggers, who love to do this.

McEnroe: No actually I got it…

Lieberman: Read the whole speech, it’s below your standards.

McEnroe: Senator actually I got it from the New York Times.

Lieberman: Well that’s just as bad! Go back and read the speech, be more responsible.

8. This is the stunning quote for me
"It’s time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be the commander in chief for three more critical years and that in matters of war we undermine the president’s credibility at our nation’s peril."

and

McEnroe: Let me read the line to you and then you tell me how to interpret it.

Lieberman: I know what the line is! I said it!

McEnroe: Okay but the listeners don’t.

First off, it's his arrogance. I'm probably a little more tolerant of Lieberman's dissent from mainstream Democratic viewpoints. I think it's better to tolerate diversity on some issues since he's actually with us more than three times over the times that he's against us (labor, abortion, environment, public funding of education and the arts).

But trying to keep the host from reading the quote because HE already knows what it is. Sheesh. Try and remember who your bosses are, Joe. You answer to them.

Even worse is that first quote, tho. He's practically endorsing the idea that dissent is disloyalty. Even Bush has gone on record rejecting that pre-Enlightenment dinosaur. Telling the truth does not emperil the nation. Telling lies emperils the nation. Telling the truth only emperils those who are in power, and only then when they have been telling lies.

Shame shame.

85. He disagrees on labor, abortion, environment, arts, affirmative action...
He's a real Democrat on most issues. He's just not a very good Democrat on issues DUers tend to be united on. I think a primary challenge to him is a hell of a lot more appropriate that purity tests and purging the party of dissidents. Not my cup of tea, but he's carried his state three times for us. That's not nothing.

38. Given that Lieberman was actually elected VP, and not Cheney --
-- that quote about the "president's credibility" is all the more outrageous.

On the 2004 campaign trail, one of the only lines I liked from Lieberman was something he said along the lines of "How do I know we can win? Because we already did in 2000."

So, even he acknowledges Al Gore's presidential victory was usurped by the lying sack of stuff and his minions now in the WH.

Yet, Lieberman hurries at every opportunity to prostrate himself before the Il Busho.

Shades of McCain.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for Ned, gave him money and have volunteered to work on his campaign. I have his sticker on my car. But we have to be realistic. I'll work my heart out for him but the obstacles are formidable. The primary is Aug. 8. Could there be a worse time to hold a primary? Half of the state will be on vacation, including me (I am getting my absentee ballot but must wait till after mid July, which means that all those Yalies who would vote for him and are out of state are pretty much voided). Hope that it's the Rep. half, not the Dems.

Sorry, Joe. It's not like that phrase was take out of context.

In the same speech Joe also said: "I recall here the wisdom of Secretary of War, Henry L. Stimson, who served our country during World War II and the beginning of the Cold War. Stimson said that sometimes the best way to make a person trustworthy is to trust him. There is wisdom there."

Joe, Joe, Joe. As someone who supported mandatory "three strikes" sentencing laws, you should realize that Bush has had waaaaaaaay more than three.

Nice big picture of Lieberman having a fancy dinner with Bush, and, "I don't get to hear you alot because I'm in Washington."

61. Just a short time left to help Connecticut to oust this fella
(snip)
But, it will take an unprecedented grassroots movement in Connecticut, and unprecedented support from Americans everywhere, to beat an entrenched and well-funded incumbent like Joe Lieberman.

Our campaign cannot succeed without your financial support!

62. JOE MUST GO! JOE MUST GO! JOE MUST GO!
I simply do not trust his open support of the Bush policies which is proof he has no loyality to the Democratic Party. If somehow we win enough seats this year to gain a 50-50 tie in the US Senate, even though VP Cheney would break tie votes against us, I believe that the Repugs will convince Joe to switch parties and allow the GOPigs to keep control.

Another reason why JOE MUST GO! Support Ned Lamont.

87. My outrageous blog
Well, he needs something real to complain about. How about this?

Lieberman, working for the same interests that want to steer US policy in some of the directions we have seen so awfully bungled and exploited by tye Bush WH, was there to keep Bush honest and blatantly play to the Jewish voters in Florida. Once Gore went populist, even the tepid kids gloves debate with the Architect, Cheney, was not enough to guarantee Gore's disciplining. lieberman all but tossed Florida at a critical moment in seconding the GOP spin about the post election military ballots. The fairness principle simply did not weigh against strong hints of fraud in their collection and transportation, after election night.

Whatever L's pure motives might have been, his dues to the established bipartisan agenda were paid and he assumed, added to unlimited ego(at least THAT is in full evidence), he decided to triangulate against his own party or least the majority of true popular opposition by glomming onto Bush's coattails. Running, even losing the primary, would be more dues paid in service both to the upper echelon Dems and the Bush "aura". Like the weak Dem orators and losers both Congress and the media love to have on for both their loyalty to the president Select and ineffectiveness, L's renowned contributions have been to weighing down the authentic voice of opposition that cries to heaven for simple justice, plain facts. Sure he votes Dem in laudable causes, now losing causes. His best known words in public boost the GOP breadwinner.

Since being humiliated, he doggedly sticks to the roadkill line between forthright DINO and DLC infallible cleverness. What was supposed to guarantee his seat is being used against him. So is he a stalking horse, a troll, serving the GOP interests or is a true believer Prince of Foggy Bottom DLC "principles"? Perhaps the heat of the campaign can finally swerve him off the straight and narrow to openly ride against the traffic or get in line, but more so it it seems absolutely fixed that he can only vary between the two narrow options, one heinous(troll), one absurd(DLC rightie), both smug and intolerable.

103. Does this Ned Lamont have a decent shot at knocking him out in a primary?
Edited on Fri Mar-24-06 03:02 AM by NobleCynic
I mean Lieberman polls better among Republicans than Democrats.

<http://blog.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2006/01/conn_senate_survey_says_a_4th.html>

He's up for re-election this time, hopefully there is someone out there who has a chance of taking both him and the general election. I'd hate to see him taken out in a primary only to see the seat go to a Republican in the general. How does his Senate district lean in terms of political registration?
