1. To arbitrarily exert control over women. It is just the first step.
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 08:05 PM by BrklynLiberal
Christian Reconstructionists would take the vote away from women too. Women would revert back to their 19th century position in society, under the total domination and control of men.

Christian Reconstructionism/Dominionism calls for the death penalty for homosexuals, abortion doctors and women guilty of "unchastity before marriage," among other moral crimes. This is the theocracy that the Repukes influenced by these people are leading us to. (The two latest additions to the Supreme Court are beloved by these people.)

You can call it the Christian Taliban and you wouold be quite accurate.

3. To punish women, of course!
If she willingly has sex, then she's a slut and a whore, and the baby is her punishment.

If she is raped, it's her fault for acting like a slut and a whore, and the baby is her punishment.

If she is the victim of incest, it's her fault for acting like a slut and whore, and the baby is her punishment.

4. Actually, its more to stop the poor woman who's carrying the
second coming of christ from being able to abort said second christ child. Thats why no Right to life fundie is concerned about white rich girls getting abortions over seas. Its really amazing how fundies minds really work, throw out scripture and logic, just base life on fear of what if.... What if that poor woman was carrying the christ child? Ignore the fact that if she was, after said child was born its on its own as far as fundies are concerned, remember god will provide for the christ child. After talking to a few fundies, that was what became very clear, they are afraid that the second coming will get aborted if abortion is kept legal. The rest of the control issues are just fringe benefits. Fundie thinking at its best, we can dictate to god what, when and how the future plays out. BTW, these same people also believe that the US of A is the new land of the chosen people, so to them it makes sense to protect the christ child from the anti christ by stopping abortions in the USA. Twisted scripture at its best. Me thinks the fundies got the movie exorcist and the scriptures confused.

6. true of some but certianly not all
I would say that there are a few people out there who want to "punish women" but for the most part, I think people honestly care about what they see as a human being. Most of the exceptions in the bills you see put forth in Congress are disigned around the concept that it is better to have some protection for the unborn than none at all so they are willing to make concessions in order to get the bill passed into law.

Of course these bills are not viewed as an end in themselves but as a stepping stone or starting point from which to procede to making all abortions illegal.

Their big issue with sex ed is usually that they feel that safe sex is over emphasized while their own abstinence till marriage approach is neglected.

They do not laud the clinic bombers as heros because many of them believe that non-violent tactics should be used to bring about change. Therefore, the bombers are seen as murderers and on the same level as the abortion doctors.

As far as the US participation in the UN Population Fund, most of these people hold the view that we (as Americans) should not put ourselves in a position to have our laws subject to the whims of other countries and therefore are agianst the UN's very existence.

While these are not meant to be absolute statements, they are a compilitation of my observations.

7. ok, and if a fetus is really a person
then there should be no exceptions to abortion bans. That includes rape, incest, health of the mother, anything. That, at least, is a logical conclusion that I can respect for it's consistency, if not agree with.

8. Where in the world are you living?
"I would say that there are a few people out there who want to "punish women" but for the most part, I think people honestly care about what they see as a human being."

If that's true, why are so many of these people in favor of capital punishment?

10. To punish women for having sex
A rhetorical question:

They apparently do not want women to have sex for pleasure, and they hate homosexuality. Who are they going to have sex with?

11. oh, they'll have sex with women
the dirty little temptresses, but they don't need to respect the little whores in the morning, you know? The semen recepticle isn't someone's mother, sister or daughter, it's just a cheap ho.
